The 34-year-old defenseman scored 172 points (25 goals, 147 assists) in 821 regular-season games with the Chicago Blackhawks and Arizona Coyotes, and 29 points (two goals, 27 assists) in 137 Stanley Cup Playoff games. He played the past four seasons with the Coyotes and had five assists in 41 games this season.
Hjalmarsson won the Stanley Cup three times with the Blackhawks (2010, 2013, 2015) before being traded to the Coyotes on June 23, 2017. He was selected by Chicago in the fourth round (No. 108) of the 2005 NHL Draft.
"I've been to a lot of places," he told the Coyotes website March 3 before playing his 800th NHL game, against the Los Angeles Kings. "I'm thankful for [the places hockey has taken me], most of the U.S. and Canada. I've had a lot of fun experiences. It's about the experience along the way, the places you've seen and the people you've met. It's been a lot of fun, but also a lot of hard work."
