Nikolai-Knyzhov

Nikolai Knyzhov
is out until at least the NHL All-Star break after the San Jose Sharks defenseman tore the Achilles tendon in his right leg while participating in off-ice training.

The 24-year-old had surgery Aug. 10 and projected recovery time is about six months. He did not play last season because of an injury and signed a one-year contract April 1, 2022.
The 2023 Honda NHL All-Star weekend is scheduled for Feb. 3-4.
An undrafted free agent, Knyzhov has 10 points (two goals, eight assists) in 59 NHL games.
The Sharks (32-37-13) were sixth in the Pacific Division last season and have not made the Stanley Cup Playoffs since 2018-19. They traded defenseman Brent Burns to the Carolina Hurricanes and signed free agent defensemen Matt Benning (four-year contract) and Markus Nutivaara (one year) on July 13.
San Jose named Mike Grier the first Black general manager in NHL history July 5. David Quinn was hired as coach July 26.
