Selected by the New York Islanders in the first round (No. 5) of the 2010 NHL Draft, Niederreiter has 396 points (199 goals, 197 assists) in 788 regular-season games for the Predators, Carolina Hurricanes, Minnesota Wild and Islanders. He has 30 points (15 goals, 15 assists) in 82 playoff games.
Winnipeg (35-23-1) is tied for second in the Central Division with the Colorado Avalanche, who have played two fewer games. The two teams are three points behind the Dallas Stars for first, and one point ahead of the Minnesota Wild, who own the second wild card into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Western Conference.
Nashville (28-22-6), which is fifth in the Central, is eight points behind Minnesota.
