The winner will advance to the second round to face either the Calgary Flames or Dallas Stars. Calgary leads that best-of-7 series 3-2 with Game 6 at American Airlines Center on Friday (9:30 p.m. ET; TNT, CBC, SN, TVAS, BSSW).
Edmonton defeated Los Angeles 4-2 in Game 6 on Thursday to tie that series. Defenseman Tyson Barrie scored the go-ahead goal in the third period.
"I can't wait," Barrie said. "[Our fans have] been amazing all year, all playoffs and we've seen the crowds and what they're getting up, to so it's going to be bonkers in there. We can't wait to get on the ice for Game 7. It's going to be awesome."
The Oilers are 6-4 in Game 7, 3-1 at home. They have lost their past two, each on the road, and haven't played a Game 7 at home since April 16, 1990, when they defeated the Winnipeg Jets 4-1 in the Smythe Division Semifinals.
Derick Brassard has played eight Game 7s, none with the Oilers, and is 5-3 with four assists. Duncan Keith is 2-3, all for the Chicago Blackhawks, and has three assists. No one on the Oilers roster has scored a goal in a Game 7.
Oilers goalies Mike Smith and Mikko Koskinen have never played, and Jay Woodcroft has never coached, a Game 7.
The Kings are 7-4 in Game 7, 5-3 on the road. They have won each of their past four, three during the Stanley Cup-winning season of 2014.
Anze Kopitar, Dustin Brown, Drew Doughty (injured) and Jonathan Quick have each played four Game 7s and are 4-0. Kopitar has six points (two goals, four assists), Brown has three points (one goal, two assists) and Quick has a 1.95 goals-against average and .940 save percentage. Coach Todd McLellan is 1-3.
"The older guys haven't been there in a few years, and we have a few guys that haven't experienced this at all, so it's natural," Kopitar, the Kings captain, said. "But if you told us that we got to win one game to advance, we'd certainly take the opportunity. So, it's not all that bad. We're going to fly out there tomorrow and get ready for Game 7."
There were three Game 7s in the 2021 Stanley Cup Playoffs with the home team winning two of them (Vegas Golden Knights against Minnesota Wild, Stanley Cup First Round; Tampa Bay Lightning against New York Islanders, Stanley Cup Semifinals).
