The 62-year-old played 19 NHL seasons as a defenseman, 15 with the Oilers and four with the Rangers. He won the Stanley Cup five times with Edmonton (1984, 1985, 1987, 1988, 1990) and once with New York (1994). Lowe scored 431 points (84 goals, 347 assists) in 1,254 regular-season games and 58 points (10 goals, 48 assists) in 214 Stanley Cup Playoff games.
Lowe, now an alternate governor for the Oilers, was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2020. He was selected by Edmonton in the first round (No. 21) of the 1979 NHL Draft.
The Oilers also announced a dressing room tribute to Joey Moss will be unveiled by current Oilers players and staff prior to their first home preseason game, against the Seattle Kraken on Sept. 28. Moss, their longtime locker room attendant, died Nov. 2, 2020. He was born with Down syndrome and also worked with the Edmonton Football Team of the Canadian Football League.
