Olli-Juolevi

Olli Juolevi
will have back surgery and may not be ready when the Vancouver Canucks begin training camp in September.

The 20-year-old defenseman, chosen by the Canucks with the No. 5 pick in the 2016 NHL Draft, will have a microdiscectomy procedure for a disk in his lower back after he experienced discomfort during offseason training.
The Canucks said they will provide a timeline after the surgery. Minnesota Wild forward Zack Parise had a microdiscectomy Oct. 24 and missed the first nine weeks of the 2017-18 season.
Juolevi had 19 points (seven goals, 12 assists) in 38 games with TPS Turku of SM-liiga in Finland this season.
