ANAHEIM -- Lukas Dostal made 29 saves for the Anaheim Ducks in a 2-1 win against the Ottawa Senators at Honda Center on Wednesday.

"What I see is a guy that's incredibly competitive, he's a gamer," Ducks coach Greg Cronin said of Dostal, who made his third straight start. "He takes ownership of his game when things don't go well. He's the first one that will look in the mirror and say, 'I could've done a better job.' "

Ryan Strome and Alex Killorn each scored his 10th goal of the season for the Ducks (23-36-3), who have won three of four.

Mark Kastelic scored, and Mads Sogaard made 14 saves for the Senators (25-32-3), who have lost five in a row.

"It's just frustrating," Kastelic said. "Everybody's trying out there and their goalie was hot tonight."

Anaheim went ahead 2-1 at 3:27 of the third period when Killorn redirected a point shot from defenseman Olen Zellweger into the net.

"It feels to get a tip-in goal," Killorn said. "That's how I scored a lot in the past with Tampa [Bay], so to get some greasy goals like that, it's a good sign."

Ottawa took a 1-0 lead at 2:44 of the first period. Artem Zub took a wrist shot from the right point, and Kastelic tipped it into the net for his third goal of the season.

"It's a good feeling getting on the board early and the rest of the game just comes to you," Kastelic said.

Matthew Highmore, who was recalled from Belleville of the American Hockey League on Wednesday, shortly before the Senators traded Vladimir Tarasenko to the Florida Panthers, was credited with an assist in his season debut.

Highmore left the game in the third period with an upper-body injury.

The Senators had 12 shots on goal through the first two periods before totaling 18 in the third.

"We're best when we get a lot of pucks to the net and we go to the net for rebounds and screens," Ottawa interim coach Jacques Martin said. "We did in the third period and at the end of the game we ended up outshooting them by a fair margin, but I think we need to have more of a shooting mentality from the beginning."

Dostal made a left-toe save on Shane Pinto at 3:59 of the second period before the Ducks tied it 1-1 at 4:42.

"He's playing awesome," Zellweger said of Dostal. "He plays the puck well too, so lots of things he's been doing to give us confidence."

Strome tried to feed Frank Vatrano cutting through the slot, but the puck went off Ottawa defenseman Jake Sanderson and into his own net.

Dostal made a right pad save on Tim Stutzle from in close at 7:16 of the third, and Sogaard answered with a toe save on Killorn on 27 seconds later.

"You always wish you could come up with an extra save to help the team out," Sogaard said. "But I think after my last stint I just kind of more so realized that I don't need to change anything, I just need to play like myself and play with confidence."

The Ducks were without three of their top four point-scorers on the season.

Forward Adam Henrique was traded earlier in the day to the Edmonton Oilers in a three-team deal, forward Troy Terry sat out with an upper-body injury, and forward Mason McTavish missed his second straight game with a lower-body injury.

The Ducks also traded forward Sam Carrick in the deal that sent Henrique to Edmonton.

"It's a difficult day," Killorn said. "It's my first year (in Anaheim), but those two guys had such an impact on this team. It's tough to replace guys like that. You understand why Edmonton grabbed guys like that to help them on their run, so it's going to be tough for us here."

NOTES: Sogaard started his second straight game because Martin wanted to allow additional recovery time for Anton Forsberg (lower-body injury) and Joonas Korpisalo (illness), who were unavailable in the 4-2 loss at the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday. ... Ottawa forward Brady Tkachuk returned after missing the Philadelphia game with an upper-body injury and had three shots on goal. .... Senators forward Rourke Chartier was recalled from Belleville on Tuesday to replace forward Zack MacEwen, who sustained an upper-body injury against Philadelphia. Chartier had two hits in 12:19. ... The Ducks recalled forwards Glenn Gawdin and Pavol Regenda from San Diego of the AHL on Wednesday, and each made his season debut. Gawdin had a blocked shot and four hits in 7:35, and Regenda had a blocked shot and two takeaways in 12:15.
