On June 19, the Senators traded Hoffman, defenseman prospect Cody Donaghey and a fifth-round pick in the 2020 NHL Draft to the San Jose Sharks for forward Mikkel Boedker, defenseman prospect Julius Bergman and a sixth-round pick in 2020. Two hours later, the Sharks traded the 28-year-old forward and a seventh-round pick in the 2018 NHL Draft to the Panthers for a second-round pick in 2019 NHL Draft and fourth- and fifth-round picks in 2018.
Hoffman had 230 points (107 goals, 123 assists) in 342 games with the Senators.
Goalie James Reimer will start for the Panthers, who will go for their fourth straight win. Roberto Luongo made 29 saves in a 4-2 victory against the New York Islanders on Saturday.
Goalie Mike McKenna will make his first start for the Senators, who rallied for a 6-4 win at the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday.
