OTT CAR trade Paquette Galchenyuk Dzingel

Cedric Paquette and Alex Galchenyuk were traded to the Carolina Hurricanes by the Ottawa Senators for Ryan Dzingel on Saturday.

Dzingel was selected by the Senators in the seventh round (No. 204) of the 2011 NHL Draft and the forward played four seasons for them (2015-19).

"It's going to be fun," Dzingel said Tuesday. "I think, get traded for the first time, it's tough to go to a new place and not know how things run and where to go and where to be and not step on anyone's toes, so it's going to be nice to be very familiar and be able to walk around and actually know what I'm doing in the locker room."

Dzingel scored four points (two goals, two assists) in 11 games this season. He has scored 171 points (76 goals, 95 assists) in 343 regular-season games with the Hurricanes, Senators and Columbus Blue Jackets, and four points (three goals, one assist) in 28 Stanley Cup Playoff games.

"In Carolina, I didn't have as big a role as I would like," Dzingel said. "I want to play quality minutes again. I know what I'm capable of. I feel great physically, and the best I've ever felt shape-wise. Just take it day by day and give everything I have and try to get some wins here."

Dzingel will have to satisfy quarantine requirements before being available to play for the Senators due to coronavirus issues related to the United States-Canada border.

"Other than this 14-day quarantine, stuck in the Brookstreet [Hotel], I'm very excited," Dzingel said. "I can't wait to get out of this hotel and get on the ice again."

Paquette scored one goal in nine games this season. The forward was acquired by Ottawa on Dec. 27 with defenseman Braydon Coburn in a trade with the Tampa Bay Lightning, with whom he won the Stanley Cup last season.

"You want to surround yourself with winners," Hurricanes general manager Don Waddell told the team's web site. "Once you taste winning at any level, particularly at our level winning the Stanley Cup, there's nothing like that.

"He knows his role, and he plays the game hard. It's something we felt we needed to add to our group, particularly to our forward group. We score goals. We're not worried about goals; we're worried about defending and being tougher to play against, and he matches that up real well."

Selected in the fourth round (No. 101) of the 2012 NHL Draft, Paquette has scored 86 points (48 goals, 38 assists) in 386 regular-season games with the Senators and Lightning, and 12 points (five goals, seven assists) in 91 playoff games.

"He's in on the forecheck, he hits and he plays that hard-nosed game. I'm excited to have him," Hurricanes forward Jordan Martinook said. "To have that heavy fourth line, that's something that's crucial."

Galchenyuk was traded by the Hurricanes to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Monday before playing a game for Carolina. The Hurricanes received forward Egor Korshkov and defenseman David Warsofsky.
