Subban sang Johnny Cash songs at Tootsie's Orchid Lounge, signed autographs in a Predators jersey, and made a great first impression in his first public appearance in Nashville since the Predators acquired him from the Montreal Canadiens in a trade for defenseman Shea Weber on June 29.
After his session on stage at Tootsie's, where he sang "Folsom Prison Blues," Subban went to the Predators practice rink, Ford Ice Center in neighboring Antioch, Tenn. Subban publicly debuted his new yellow sweater with customary No. 76 and signed autographs, posed for pictures, and checked out the pro shop's selection of hockey sticks.
Sunday was not Subban's first display of charisma in Nashville. In January, he wowed the crowd and won the Honda NHL Breakaway Challenge at the 2016 Honda NHL All-Star Skills Competition at Bridgestone Arena by dressing as Florida Panthers right wing Jaromir Jagr. "For me, it's a huge honor," Subban said after the Jan. 30 event. "For that five minutes, I was Jaromir Jagr, so it was pretty cool." Subban spent his first seven NHL seasons with Montreal, winning the Norris Trophy in 2012-13 and finishing third in voting in 2014-15. His 276 points since 2010-11 are sixth most among NHL defensemen in that span.
