Kane gets 1,000th NHL point for Blackhawks

CHICAGO -- Patrick Kane became the 10th United States-born player to reach 1,000 NHL points with an assist in the third period for the Chicago Blackhawks in a
5-2 win against the Winnipeg Jets on Sunday
.

"That was special," Kane said. "Obviously nice to get it out of the way and move on and start the next portion of my career here."
He reached the milestone when he helped set up Brandon Saad's goal that gave Chicago a 4-1 lead at 14:14, and the Blackhawks came off the bench to celebrate with Kane.
"What a moment, obviously, with everyone coming onto the ice and sharing that moment with me," he said. "You see some faces in that pile that have been a big part of a lot of those points, whether it's been [Jonathan Toews] or [Duncan Keith] or [Alex] DeBrincat recently. Saader to finish it off I think was pretty cool."
Kane has 380 goals and 620 assists in 13 NHL seasons, all with Chicago.
At 31 years, 61 days old, the right wing is the youngest U.S.-born player to reach 1,000 points, ahead of Jeremy Roenick, who was 32 years, 13 days. It took Kane 953 games, eight fewer than Roenick, who played his first 524 games for Chicago but reached the milestone with the Philadelphia Flyers, his third NHL team, on Jan. 30, 2002.

Kane, who has four goals and 11 assists during a 10-game point streak, got his 999th point with an assist on Saad's first-period goal in a 6-2 win at the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday.
"He's one of those elite players," said Saad, who has been Kane's teammate for seven seasons. "He's one of those few who can achieve goals like that. Like I said, all you can say is good things about him. He's a special player. He keeps getting better with age. He's fun to play with."
Kane led the NHL in scoring with 106 points (46 goals, 60 assists) in 2015-16, when he won the Hart Trophy voted MVP of the League, and had an NHL career-high 110 points (44 goals, 66 assists) last season.
He is the 90th player to reach 1,000 points in NHL history. Three other players have had 1,000 points for the Blackhawks (Stan Mikita, 1,467; Bobby Hull, 1,153; and Denis Savard, 1,096).
"I've been very fortunate in my career, whether it's been getting drafted by Chicago or making some decisions when I was younger to move away at 14 years old, a freshman in high school, forgo college and play in London (in the Ontario Hockey League) for a year," Kane said.
"Obviously, Chicago winning the [No. 1 pick in the 2007 NHL Draft], getting drafted by Chicago, then having a lot of good pieces in place here with some great players where we could turn the corner pretty fast and become a good team. There were a lot of things that were lined up. When you reach a milestone like this, you think of all those players you played with that had a big part of it. The names I mentioned, obviously. [Patrick Sharp] was a big part of that. It's been a fun ride."
