Montreal Canadiens fans are always happy to see former goalie Patrick Roy, even when he’s coaching the opposing team.

Roy received a standing ovation from Canadiens fans before his New York Islanders played against Montreal at the Bell Centre on Thursday.

During “O Canada,” the Canadiens showed pictures of Roy’s highlights with the team on the arena video board while the crowd cheered loudly.

The former Canadiens goalie saluted the fans after the anthem.

Roy was hired as the Islanders head coach last week.

He played 12 seasons with the Canadiens from 1984-1995. He helped Montreal win two Stanley Cup championships in 1986 and 1993.
