The forward did not play in a 3-1 loss at the Toronto Maple Leafs on Monday and is day to day. He left the morning skate Monday early after doing the same during practice Sunday.
"[Laine] was down at the ice today so he got treatment," coach Paul Maurice said Tuesday. "We don't feel he's ready to go tonight so we'll hold him out another day."
The Jets' next game after Tuesday is at the Senators on Thursday,
Laine scored two goals, including the overtime winner, and had an assist when the Jets opened their season with a 4-3 win against the Calgary Flames in Winnipeg on Jan. 14.
"There wasn't anything in the game Thursday he was worried about," Maurice said Monday. "He was aware of it, but it was minor. He came out Sunday but couldn't warm it up. It couldn't get to the point where he felt comfortable with it.
"We've got to get this thing healed. I don't have a timeline for you, I'm not looking at this unless something changes as a long-term thing. The day to day is an honest assessment of where he is at but it's going to get questioned because we play six of the next nine days. We want to get him back in the lineup. You wish you had more time between games to let it heal but we don't. We won't put him back in until he's confident he can be the player that he was."
