The 24-year-old forward, who was a restricted free agent, avoided a salary arbitration hearing scheduled for July 29. He had an NHL career-high 21 goals and 38 points in 64 games with the Rangers last season.
"I am happy to sign an extension and avoid arbitration. No one is willing to go to the court with your own team," Buchnevich said to NHL.com/ru. "So it's great that we find the common ground with the Rangers before it, and I don't need to fly over to (arbitration hearings in) Toronto. I am happy to be a Ranger going forward."
Selected by New York in the third round (No. 75) of the 2013 NHL Draft, Buchnevich has 101 points (43 goals, 58 assists) in 179 regular-season games and one assist in five Stanley Cup Playoff games.
The offseason additions of forwards Artemi Panarin and Kaapo Kakko, and defensemen Jacob Trouba and Adam Fox, have Buchnevich excited for the upcoming Rangers' season.
"This is going to be great. Panarin and [Mika] Zibanejad are both very skilled players. We've played alongside Zibanejad and found the chemistry easily," Buchnevich said. "But I don't really know yet what to expect. There are other good players (on the team). Kaapo Kakko has just arrived. Haven't seen him on the ice so far but the reviews I heard about him were strong."
