In a career that has spanned 17 NHL seasons and 1,000 games, Pittsburgh Penguins forward Evgeni Malkin hasn't earned a reputation for showing his emotions.
Sunday in Chicago was a different story. The Penguins celebrated Malkin reaching the 1,000 game milestone in a few unique ways. The first was having his son, Nikita, read the starting lineups.
Crosby on participating in Malkin's warmup routine: "Geno's got his original moves that he does out there. I think we just had some fun with that. We talked about a lot of different stuff and that one seemed to make sense. It was just really cool to be a part of it." pic.twitter.com/m8ABjuVqmE
Malkin, of course, scored a goal and extended his points streak to seven games in a Penguins win, but the real celebration was off the ice.
Malkin: "I want to say thank you, everyone. It's a very emotional night for me. Thank you, Sid. Score goals... It's a special night, but I want a special year. Let's go, guys."#Ma1Kinpic.twitter.com/PVMrVQWocy
"It was a big surprise for sure," Malkin said. "Very emotional for me. It's crazy because I was not ready... Best thing in my life for sure... I appreciate that they came to Chicago to give me a big surprise. I love them both."
