Harvey the Hound of the Flames and Iceburgh of the Penguins were announced as candidates for this year's Mascot Hall of Fame class.
The
voting for the top 10
finalists for the Mascot Hall Of Fame started Sunday.
Harvey the Hound, known for his fireman suit and long, red tongue, became the NHL's first mascot when the Flames drafted him "first-pound" in 1983. Since then, he's been to over 1,500 NHL games and on 500 school, hospital and charity visits.
Iceburgh, who has been the Penguins mascot for 30 years, has starred in ESPN commercials, made an
iconic cameo in the movie "Sudden Death,"
performed at the 2014 and 2016 Stadium Series games and at the Mascot Games.
Harvey and Iceburgh are hoping to join Montreal Canadians mascot Youppi! and Chicago Blackhawks mascot Tommy Hawk in the hall. Youppi!, who started his Hall of Fame career as the mascot of Major League Baseball's Montreal Expos, was inducted into the Mascot HOF in 2020. Tommy Hawk, the bird of play, was inducted in 2019.
Final ballot voting takes place from Oct. 17-23. Voters can choose up to four finalists to join the HOF as members of the 2022 class. To vote, visit

Other mascots nominated include Butler Blue (Butler University), Fredbird (St. Louis Cardinals), Globie (Harlem Globetrotters), Hugo the Hornet (Charlotte Hornets), Jaxson de Ville (Jacksonville Jaguars), Southpaw (Chicago White Sox), The Raptor (Toronto Raptors) and Wally the Green Monster (Boston Red Sox).
The official announcement of the new Mascot Hall of Fame 2021 Inductees will be announced on Friday, Nov. 5 and the Class of 2022 Induction Ceremony will be held on Saturday, June 11, 2022, at the Mascot Hall of Fame in Whiting, Indiana.
