Penguins president: 'We can win a couple more Cups'

Pittsburgh Penguins president and CEO David Morehouse enjoyed sharing the Stanley Cup with family, friends and fans Monday, and he thinks he'll get to do it a few more times too.

"I actually think we can win a couple more Cups," Morehouse told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette during his day with the NHL championship trophy, part of which he spent at Pauline Park in Pittsburgh's Beechview neighborhood. "We have the best owner in hockey (Mario Lemieux), the best general manager (Jim Rutherford), the best coach (Mike Sullivan) and a bunch of the best players (Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin)."
The Penguins have won the Cup three times, including each of the past two seasons, since Morehouse became president in 2007. This season, they'll try to become the first team to win the Cup three consecutive seasons since the New York Islanders won it four straight times from 1980-83.
"The goal would be to try and replicate what we've been able to do," said Morehouse, who enjoyed a chocolate sundae out of the Cup with his family. "It's the hardest trophy to win, but I'd like to give it a shot and try to win a few more."

Crosby said he believes the Penguins are capable of the rare three-peat.
"We're going into training camp with that in mind," the 30-year-old captain said during his day with the Cup in Nova Scotia last month. "It'll be a big challenge, but why not?"
Crosby won the Conn Smythe Trophy as MVP of the Stanley Cup Playoffs in 2016, when the Penguins defeated the San Jose Sharks in six games in the Final, and in 2017, when they defeated the Nashville Predators in six games in the Final. He is the third player to win the Conn Smythe in consecutive years (Lemieux, Penguins, 1991 and 1992; Bernie Parent, Philadelphia Flyers, 1974 and 1975).
