Penguins raise Stanley Cup banner

PITTSBURGH -- Sidney Crosby sat out the Pittsburgh Penguins' season opener against the Washington Capitals because of a concussion, but that didn't stop him from making an appearance in uniform on the PPG Paints Arena ice Thursday.
During a pregame ceremony that concluded with the Penguins' 2016 Stanley Cup banner being raised, the Pittsburgh captain was the last player to be introduced and skated out carrying the Cup raised above his head before placing it on a small table at center ice.

To begin the 25-minute ceremony, Penguins fans watched highlights of the Stanley Cup run on the center-ice video screen. That was followed by an introduction of the coaching staff, management and players for this season.
The Capitals, who lost in six games to the Penguins in the Eastern Conference Second Round, remained in their locker room during the ceremony, which concluded with the 2016 banner joining ones from 1991, 1992 and 2009. That capped a week of celebration for the Penguins that included a visit with President Barack Obama at the White House last Thursday and the championship ring presentation ceremony Monday.
