Bruins story

BOSTON-- Brad Marchand celebrated his 500th NHL game with five points for the Boston Bruins in a 6-3 win against the Philadelphia Flyers at TD Garden on Saturday.
Marchand, who tied his NHL game high for points, scored two goals (one shorthanded, one into an empty net) and had three assists. He has seven goals and five assists in his past six games.
"I think it's just that's how hockey goes sometimes, pucks bounce your way and other times they don't," Marchand said. "It is nice when things are going your way, you feel a little more confident, you feel you're able to do things you're a little nervous to try at different times."

David Krejci, Torey Krug, Patrice Bergeron and Zdeno Chara scored second-period goals for the Bruins (23-18-5), who won for the third time in their past five games (3-1-1).
Tuukka Rask made 21 saves two days after he left his prior start in the first period after a shot hit him in the neck during a 2-1 loss at the Nashville Predators.

Pierre-Edouard Bellemare, Brayden Schenn and Wayne Simmonds scored, and Michal Neuvirth made 33 saves for the Flyers (22-17-6), who are 3-7-3 since they won 10 in a row.
"We just didn't play a good game today," Simmonds said. "I thought we had a good start tonight but it kind of fell apart afterwards. There's no excuses."
Bellemare scored on the first shot of the game for a 1-0 Flyers lead at 2:05 of the first period.
Marchand scored his second shorthanded goal of the season to tie it 1-1 at 7:48. Krejci gave the Bruins a 2-1 lead at 2:00 of the second period, and Krug made it 3-1 at 6:00.
After Schenn's tip made it 3-2 at 8:16, Bergeron gave Boston a 4-2 lead when his one-timer from the right dot went off defenseman Andrew MacDonald and past Neuvirth at 13:04. Chara made it 5-2 at 15:18 with a one-timer from the right dot.

Simmonds scored during a 5-on-3 with four seconds remaining to make it 5-3, and Marchand made it 6-3 with his empty-net goal with 54 seconds remaining in the third period.

Goal of the game

Krug broke the puck out of the Flyers zone with a pass to Bergeron, who hit David Pastrnak in stride. After Pastrnak gained the zone, he dropped the puck to Marchand, who found Krug cutting to the net for a tip-in that extended the defenseman's goal streak to three games.

Save of the game

Rask used his blocker to deny Bellemare, who kept the puck on a 2-on-1 at 11:41 of the second period.

Highlight of the game

Marchand deflected Sean Couturier's attempted pass at the Bruins blue line and beat Flyers defenseman Ivan Provorov to the loose puck near the high slot in the Philadelphia zone. Provorov hooked Marchand, but he got enough on the puck to get it through Neuvirth's five-hole for his shorthanded goal.

Unsung performance of the game

The Bruins penalty kill allowed two goals in four opportunities but delivered when the Flyers started the third period with 1:37 of power-play time trailing by two. Boston didn't allow Philadelphia a shot attempt.

They said it

"I talked to the guys about how important that kill was going to be at the beginning of the third. Certainly didn't want to give them any life. And I thought we did a good job of killing that and we went back to our game." -- Bruins coach Claude Julien

"It was unfortunate that they scored [at] the last little bit of that. I thought we built some momentum before that goal and we did a great job of getting to the dirty areas, blocking some shots, things like that." -- Flyers defenseman Michael Del Zotto on almost killing a five-minute major before Patrice Bergeron's goal
