PHI@BOS: Bergeron backhands in second PPG of the game

BOSTON -- Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand each had two goals and an assist to help the Boston Bruins defeat the Philadelphia Flyers 6-1 at TD Garden on Saturday.

Bergeron scored twice on the power play and Marchand once for the Bruins, who went 3-for-4 with the man-advantage.
Craig Smith and Charlie Coyle each had a goal and an assist, and Jaroslav Halak made 16 saves for the Bruins (3-1-1), who swept the two-game set from the Flyers. Boston won 5-4 in a shootout Thursday.
"We've continued to build on our game," Marchand said. "We had a great comeback win the other night. We should've been in that game prior to our comeback as well, so it just shows that guys are getting comfortable with one another. Young guys are starting to get their groove and are feeling very comfortable out there. And that's what we need, that young energy, guys fighting for spots, it creates internal competition and it's pushing us all to be better.
"So yeah, we had a good game tonight and I think it stems from the work the guys are putting in on and off the ice."
Kevin Hayes scored, and Carter Hart made 20 saves for the Flyers (3-2-1).
"I mean, they slapped us in the face there," Hayes said. "It was not a fun game to be a part of. Unacceptable in every aspect of the game. I think everyone needs to figure out what went wrong and correct it in practice."
Bergeron scored a power-play goal with a backhand shot from the left side of the net at 8:09 of the first period to give Boston a 1-0 lead.
Hayes tied it 1-1 at 1:14 of the second period when he skated toward the net and redirected Jakub Voracek's pass from the top of the right face-off circle.

Smith, who signed as a free agent Oct. 10, scored his first goal for Boston at 2:30 for a 2-1 lead after a pass from Coyle.
Coyle extended the lead to 3-1 with a deflection from the slot at 17:50.
Marchand made it 4-1 with a wrist shot at 4:13 of the third period, and his power-play goal at 7:59 stretched the lead to 5-1.
After not scoring an even-strength goal in their first three games, the Bruins have scored six in their past two.

"Yeah, I think it's a matter of time. … I think we had a lot of good looks," Smith said. "Maybe we didn't shoot as much but we were looking for the right shot, and I think that we had some good chances off of it, and I think if you keep doing that … I think you're in trouble if you're playing 5-on-5 and its perimeter and you're not getting second looks and you're not retrieving pucks. Then things might be a little bit difficult, you had to change a few things.
"But for the most part I think we're playing our game, we're using our speed, we're creating 2-on-1s in different areas and creating some good looks. There's not much you can ask for other than that."
Bergeron's second power-play goal put the Bruins ahead 6-1 at 13:33.
After the final horn, a frustrated Hart smashed his stick against the goal post and crossbar until it shattered into pieces.
"Just kind of boiled over," Hart said. "I regret doing that. Not a guy who gets angry too often, but just frustrated. It was unprofessional of me to do that there at the end, so I apologize for anyone who saw that. Just heat of the moment."
NOTES: Forward Claude Giroux played his 610th game as Flyers captain, tying Bobby Clarke for the most in their history. … Bruins forward Trent Frederic and defenseman Jakub Zboril each had an assist for his first NHL point. Frederic has played 22 NHL games and Zboril seven. … Bergeron is the 11th Bruins player with 50 games of three or more points. Phil Esposito tops the list with 140. … Boston is 11-0-3 in its past 14 regular-season home games against Philadelphia, their longest active point streak against one opponent.
