BOSTON --Travis Sanheim scored on a breakaway at 3:08 of overtime to give the Philadelphia Flyers a 3-2 win against the Boston Bruins at TD Garden on Monday.

Sanheim blocked a one-timer by Bruins forward Patrice Bergeron, skated end to end, and beat goalie Dan Vladar blocker side after Bergeron lost an edge at the blue line.
"I think we knew it was a big game coming in, so obviously a pretty big goal," Sanheim said. "Needed to get the two points. Would've loved to get it in regulation, but we got the two points nonetheless. So it was a good team win. Felt good to get that one."
Ivan Provorov had two assists, and Brian Elliott made 27 saves for the Flyers (18-14-5), who won for the first time in six games this season against the Bruins (1-3-2).
"I would say coming back in the NHL when you're down after two is extremely hard," Philadelphia coach Alain Vigneault said. "It's a tough league. Coming back against the Bruins is probably an even bigger task with the veteran group that they have there and the experience. It's a challenge. Our power play came up big for us at the right time."

Vladar made 29 saves for the Bruins (19-10-6), who went 3-2-2 on a seven-game homestand.
Boston led 2-1 entering the third period, but Jeremy Lauzon was called for holding at 5:21, and Sean Couturier scored on the ensuing power play with a shot from the top of the left face-off circle through a screen by James van Riemsdyk to tie it 2-2 at 6:56.
"That hurt us obviously," Bruins coach Bruce Cassidy said. "It was the only chance we gave up in the third period. Found the back of the net, good shot, through a screen. Unfortunately, overtime, we had couple of pucks on our stick that we weren't able to get to the net or get past the goalie, and they did."
Travis Konecny gave the Flyers a 1-0 lead at 10:15 of the first period. It was his first goal in 13 games.
"It was nice to get that one," Konecny said. "Honestly, I've just been trying to play the right way and play hard. And you know, it's so cliche, but if you just keep working and doing things, working hard for your linemates … it's a matter of time before a bounce will go your way."

Karson Kuhlman tied it 1-1 at 17:33 with a wrist shot from the right circle.
Bergeron scored 46 seconds into the second period to make it 2-1, redirecting a pass from David Pastrnak in the slot on the power play.
Philadelphia will host the second game of the home-and-home set Tuesday.
"Unfortunately, it just wasn't enough today," Vladar said. "We got the point, but me personally, I'm pretty sure the whole locker room wanted the two. So a little disappointed, but we play these guys tomorrow, so I think that we are going to come back."
