Six Flyers score in win against Sabres

BUFFALO -- Defenseman Radko Gudas had a goal and two assists to help the Philadelphia Flyers to a 6-3 win against the Buffalo Sabres at KeyBank Center on Tuesday.
Gudas gave the Flyers a 2-1 lead at 4:58 of the second period when he received a pass from Sean Couturier and shot high past goalie Robin Lehner for his fourth goal.
Gudas assisted on Matt Read's goal that gave the Flyers a 1-0 lead at 4:34 of the first and Travis Konecny's goal at 5:21 of the third that made it 6-2.

"These nights don't come for me very often, and if I can contribute for the team, it's very fun for me and it makes the game extra special for me," said Gudas, who was plus-5.
The Flyers (31-26-8) have won two of their past three games (2-0-1). The Sabres (27-28-12) have lost three straight (0-2-1).
"Guys have been playing pretty well," Philadelphia coach Dave Hakstol said. "I think this is seven out of our last eight points. ... We're playing hard together, and when you get good results, that has a way of building that confidence."
Konecny and Jordan Weal each had a goal and an assist.
Sabres center Jack Eichel had two goals and an assist to extend his point streak to 11 games (five goals, 11 assists).

Weal gave the Flyers a 3-2 lead at 13:48 of the second period when a pass from Jakub Voracek deflected off his skate past Lehner for his second goal.
Claude Giroux made it 4-2 with 1:58 left in the second when he put a rebound of a Michael Del Zotto shot past Lehner. His 13th goal was his first since Feb. 2, ending a 12-game drought.
"To see him contribute and get that monkey off the back, I think he's kind of relieved," said Couturier, who had two assists.
Chris VandeVelde made it 5-2 at 2:45 of the third period when he deflected a shot by Del Zotto past Lehner.
Eichel made it 2-2 at 7:14 of the second period with a shot from the slot past goalie Steve Mason after Ryan O'Reilly won a faceoff back to him. The goal gave Eichel 100 NHL points in 127 career games.
Eichel, who had an assist on Evander Kane's goal at 15:25 of the first period to tie it 1-1, scored his second of the night at 14:50 of the third to make it 6-3.

Goal of the game

Giroux found himself all alone at the top of the crease after Del Zotto's shot from above the left faceoff circle went off Lehner's blocker and hit Sabres defenseman Josh Gorges to the left of the net. His drought-ending goal ended up as the game-winner.

Save of the game

Mason got his left skate on Jake McCabe's redirection from the slot off a pass from Kane on a 2-on-1 against Andrew MacDonald at 7:35 of the second period.

Highlight of the game

Gudas is known for his physical play, not his offensive abilities, but he beat Lehner with a top-shelf wrist shot to the short side from just below the right faceoff dot.

Unsung performance of the game

Philadelphia forward Wayne Simmonds had a blocked shot and a shot on goal during a Sabres power play after the Flyers took a too many men on the ice penalty at 10:43 of the second period.

Del Zotto was plus-5. ... The Flyers scored six goals in a game for the third time this season. … It was the second time in Gudas' NHL career that he had three or more points in a game. He had four points (two goals, two assists) March 5, 2016, against the Columbus Blue Jackets. … Eichel's 11-game point streak is the longest in the NHL. His 24 points (six goals, 18 assists) since Feb. 4 lead the NHL. ... At 20 years, 130 days, Eichel is the third-youngest player in Sabres history to reach 100 NHL points behind Pierre Turgeon (19 years, 156 days) and Phil Housley (19 years, 276 days).
