Parise nets game winner in Yandle's historic night

ELMONT, N.Y. --The Philadelphia Flyers lost their 13th straight game when Zach Parise broke a tie in the third period to give the New York Islanders a 4-3 win at UBS Arena on Tuesday.

Philadelphia defenseman Keith Yandle set the NHL record by
playing his 965th consecutive game
. Yandle was in the starting lineup and passed Doug Jarvis, who held the record since Dec. 26, 1986.
"It's one of those things that I don't think it's really sunk in too much yet," Yandle said. "It's obviously something I'm super grateful for. I'm grateful to play one game in this league, the best league in the world. To be surrounded by the best people, people that always have your back, people that are rooting for you, to be a part of the NHL and the NHL family and for me being [a part of it] the last 16 years, it's more than a dream come true."
Travis Sanheim had two assists, and Martin Jones made 29 saves for the Flyers (13-22-8), who are 0-10-3 during the skid and announced before the game Mike Yeo would remain coach for the remainder of the season. They are 5-12-4 since he replaced Alain Vigneault on Dec. 6.
It is the longest stretch without a win in Flyers history; they went 12 straight from Feb. 24-March 16, 1999 (0-8 with four ties).
"It's a tough team to play against, [but] we scored three goals tonight," Yeo said. "If you would've told me that we would've scored three goals tonight, I would've said that we would at least get a point. We gave up four, and we have to cut that down."

PHI@NYI: Parise scores his 2nd in 2 games on rush

Philadelphia has scored two goals or fewer in nine of its past 13 games, including a 3-1 loss to the Dallas Stars on Monday.
Parise and Mathew Barzal each had a goal and an assist for the Islanders (15-14-6), who have won four of their past five games. Ilya Sorokin made 14 saves for his fifth straight win.
Parise one-timed a pass from Anthony Beauvillier five seconds after an Islanders power play expired to give them a 4-3 lead at 11:51 of the third period. He has scored in each of the past two games after having one goal in the first 33 this season.
"I take a lot of pride in playing hard every night," Parise said. "Sometimes it goes in, sometimes it's a little harder to go in. But hopefully I'll be heating up here in the near future."

PHI@NYI: Barzal finishes pass at edge of circle

Claude Giroux scored 57 seconds into the first period with a shot from the right corner that snuck between Sorokin's skates to give the Flyers a 1-0 lead, and Justin Braun made it 2-0 at 12:48.
Noah Dobson scored 49 seconds later with a shot from the right point to cut it to 2-1 at 13:37, and Anders Lee tied it 2-2 on a one-timer from Barzal at 18:15.
Barzal gave the Islanders a 3-2 lead with a shot from the left circle after a pass by Parise for a power-play goal at 5:42 of the second period.
"I think it was a great response," Dobson said. "You never want to start the game down two (goals), but we were composed on the bench, went out and got one, got some momentum off that and went into the third [with a lead], so it was a good response."

PHI@NYI: Giroux scores odd goal from boards

The Flyers tied it 3-3 when Gerry Mayhew skated out from the corner with the puck, made a move around Dobson and scored with a wrist shot from the slot at 1:30 of the third period.
"It's been rough around here," Mayhew said. "To get that goal, I was pretty pumped as you saw. But it's nothing if we don't win. I know we're battling as hard as we can, it's just … I don't know. I don't know what to do."
