PHI@PIT: Crosby wins it in overtime for Penguins

PITTSBURGH -- Sidney Crosby scored 55 seconds into overtime to give the Pittsburgh Penguins a 4-3 win against the Philadelphia Flyers at PPG Paints Arena on Friday.

Crosby and Evgeni Malkin each had a goal and two assists for the Penguins (32-14-5), who are 7-2-0 in their past nine games and 15-4-1 in their past 20. Pittsburgh is second in the Metropolitan Division, six points behind the Washington Capitals.
"We've got a lot of division games, tough opponents," Crosby said. "Every point is crucial. I think you always look at this time of year when your team has to elevate your game, everyone else is doing the same. So we're going to try to do that."

Each team played for the first time since the Flyers won 3-0 against the Penguins at Wells Fargo Center on Jan. 21.
"I liked our 5-on-5 game tonight," Philadelphia coach Alain Vigneault said. "Thought we got better, and our execution got better, as the game went on, both defensively and offensively. Against a pretty good hockey team, we've played five pretty good periods of hockey. Now we got a point tonight."
Crosby circled above the slot before shooting blocker side from atop the right face-off circle for his ninth goal.
Pittsburgh scored three straight goals to take a 3-1 lead before Pitlick and Scott Laughton scored for Philadelphia to tie it 3-3.
Pitlick went glove side with a snap shot, cutting it to 3-2 at 16:29 of the second, and Laughton scored on a wrist shot by finishing a pass from Kevin Hayes that went through traffic and off Pitlick at 2:20 of the third.
"Obviously, you want to get two points," Pitlick said. "It is what it is. I thought we had a good effort. We played really well in the third period. Most of the game, played a simple game. Didn't have a lot of turnovers or anything like that. So I thought we had a good effort."
After Jakub Voracek put Philadelphia ahead 1-0 on a power play with 29 seconds remaining in the first period, Malkin tied it 1-1 at 3:55 of the second by tapping in a rebound off a shot from Patric Hornqvist that Elliott failed to glove.
Bryan Rust gave the Penguins a 2-1 lead on a power play at 5:16 for his 22nd goal before Kris Letang made it 3-1 by banking a shot off the back of Elliott for a power-play goal at 11:03 of the second.
"We definitely didn't have our best [in the third period]," Rust said. "We gave them quality looks there, but give a lot of credit to [Jarry]. He made some really big saves for us. We were able to push it to overtime and win it there."

They said it

"He just kind of came around the corner. ... Just made a good shot. Usually when you lose possession, you either have to make a big save or you have to have guys make a good play, and I didn't come up with one there." -- Flyers goalie Brian Elliott on Sidney Crosby's overtime goal
"I don't think effort was inconsistent. I think our play was inconsistent. I thought we had moments where we were controlling territory and we had command of the puck, and we were pretty good. Especially in the first two periods. I thought we got on our heels a little bit in the third. We didn't get pucks deep. We weren't as strong on the puck as we were in the first two periods." -- Penguins coach Mike Sullivan
