Rust made it 5-1 at 10:04 of the third with a backhand shot from in close. Malkin had the primary assist to become the 51st NHL player to reach 1,200 points. He has 10 (three goals, seven assists) in his past four games.
"I forget these points and [I'm] ready to play (Saturday at the Los Angeles Kings)," Malkin said.
Sidney Crosby assisted on Jake Guentzel's goal at 12:08 to make it 6-1 and extend his point streak to nine games (three goals, 11 assists).
"I thought it was a pretty dominant performance," Pittsburgh coach Mike Sullivan said. "I thought we had the puck an awful lot and I thought we generated numerous amounts of scoring chances."
McTavish scored at 13:34, and Klingberg at 15:58 for the 6-3 final.
"We've been good enough in a lot of games this year coming back in the third period," Klingberg said. "There's no reason to quit, but obviously we can do a lot better throughout the game than we did tonight."
