Players signed to professional tryouts for training camps

Unsigned veteran players can earn a contract with an NHL team by impressing enough in training camp on a professional tryout contract (PTO).

Training camps opened Dec. 31 for the seven teams that did not participate in the NHL Return to Play Plan for the 2019-20 season. Camps opened for the remaining 24 teams Jan. 3, and the regular season will begin Jan. 13.
The following notable players (listed alphabetically) will be in an NHL camp on a PTO with the listed team:
Craig Anderson, G, Washington Capitals
The 39-year-old goalie was 11-17-2 with a 3.25 goals-against average and .902 save percentage for the Ottawa Senators last season, his 17th in the NHL. He is 289-251-67 and two ties in 648 NHL games (633 starts) with 2.84 GAA, .914 save percentage and 42 shutouts for the Senators, Colorado Avalanche, Florida Panthers and Chicago Blackhawks. Henrik Lundqvist
, who signed a one-year contract Oct. 9, said he won't play this season because of a heart condition and will have surgery.
Kevin Connauton, D, Florida Panthers
The 30-year-old defenseman did not have a point in four games for the Avalanche last season and scored 27 points (five goals, 22 assists) in 38 games for the Colorado Eagles of the American Hockey League. Connauton has scored 76 points (27 goals, 49 assists) in 314 NHL games for the Dallas Stars, Columbus Blue Jackets, Arizona Coyotes and Avalanche. His best offensive season came with Arizona in 2017-18, when he scored NHL career highs in goals (11) and points (21).
Michael Del Zotto, D, Columbus Blue Jackets
The 30-year-old defenseman scored 15 points (two goals, 13 assists) in 49 games for the Anaheim Ducks last season. He has scored 236 points (56 goals, 180 assists) in 657 NHL games for the Rangers, Nashville Predators, Philadelphia Flyers, Vancouver Canucks, St. Louis Blues and Ducks.
Del Zotto signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Blue Jackets on Jan. 10.
Frederik Gauthier, F, Arizona Coyotes
The 25-year-old center scored 12 points (seven goals, five assists) in 61 games for the Toronto Maple Leafs last season. He has scored 31 points (13 goals, 18 assists) in 168 regular-season games with Toronto.
Gauthier signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Coyotes on Jan. 11.
Travis Hamonic, D, Vancouver Canucks
The 30-year-old defenseman scored 12 points (three goals, nine assists) in 50 games for the Calgary Flames last season. He opted out of the NHL Return to Play Plan and did not play in the postseason. Hamonic has scored 188 points (37 goals, 151 assists) in 637 regular-season games for the Flames and New York Islanders and four points (one goal, three assists) in 22 playoff games.
Mike Hoffman, F, St. Louis Blues
The 30-year-old forward scored 59 points (29 goals, 30 assists) in 69 games for the Panthers last season and five points (three goals, two assists) in four Stanley Cup Playoff games. Hoffman has scored at least 22 goals in each of the past six NHL seasons and at least 56 points in each of the past five.
Hoffman signed a one-year contract with the Blues on Jan. 11.
Trevor Lewis, F, Winnipeg Jets
The 33-year-old center scored 12 points (six goals, six assists) in 56 games for the Los Angeles Kings last season. Lewis has scored 163 points (70 goals, 93 assists) in 674 regular-season games and 23 points (11 goals, 12 assists) in 79 playoff games. Lewis won the Stanley Cup with the Kings in 2012 and 2014.
Jordan Nolan, F, Pittsburgh Penguins
The 31-year-old forward scored 27 points (11 goals, 16 assists) in 60 games for San Antonio of the American Hockey League last season. Nolan has scored 52 points (24 goals, 28 assists) in 375 NHL games for the Kings, Buffalo Sabres and Blues. He has scored two points (one goal, one assist) in 30 playoff games, and helped the Kings win the Cup in 2012 and 2014. Nolan last played in the NHL in 2018-19, when he had two assists in 14 games with the Blues.
Brett Ritchie, F, Calgary Flames
The 27-year-old forward scored six points (two goals, four assists) in 27 games with the Boston Bruins last season. Selected by the Dallas Stars in the second round (No. 44) of the 2011 NHL Draft, Ritchie has 60 points (35 goals 25 assists) in 268 regular-season games and no points in three Stanley Cup Playoff games.
Jordan Schmaltz, D, Arizona Coyotes
The 27-year-old defenseman last played in the NHL with the Blues in 2018-19 when he had two assists in 30 games. He has five assists in 42 NHL games.
Riley Sheahan, F, Buffalo Sabres
The 29-year-old forward scored 15 points (eight goals, seven assists) in 66 games for the Edmonton Oilers last season and no points in four playoff games. Sheahan has scored 164 points (66 goals, 98 assists) in 513 regular-season games for the Oilers, Panthers, Pittsburgh Penguins and Red Wings and seven points (three goals, four assists) in 33 playoff games.
Sheahan signed a one-year contractwith the Sabres on Jan. 8.
Devin Shore, F, Edmonton Oilers
The 26-year-old forward scored 12 points (five goals, seven assists) in 45 games for the Blue Jackets and Ducks last season, including two points (one goal, one assist) in six games after he was traded to Columbus on Feb. 24. He did not score a point in two playoff games. Shore has scored 106 points (39 goals, 67 assists) in 288 regular-season games for the Blue Jackets, Ducks and Stars.
Garret Sparks, G, Calgary Flames
The 27-year-old goalie played one game for Orlando of the ECHL this season, making 26 saves in a 3-2 overtime victory at Wheeling on Dec. 19. Sparks made 12 saves for the Vegas Golden Knights in relief of Marc-Andre Fleury during a 6-1 loss to the Avalanche on Oct. 25, 2019, his lone NHL game last season. He was 8-14-4 with a 2.75 goals-against average, .908 save percentage and two shutouts in 26 games for Chicago of the American Hockey League. Sparks was traded to Vegas by the Toronto Maple Leafs on July 23, 2019 after two seasons in Toronto, where he was 14-18-2 with a 3.09 GAA, .898 save percentage and two shutouts in 37 games (34 starts).
Michael Stone, D, Calgary Flames
The 30-year-old defenseman scored seven points (two goals, five assists) in 33 games for the Flames last season, his fourth wtih Calgary. He did not play in the postseason. Stone has scored 124 points (31 goals, 93 assists) in 472 regular-season games with the Flames and Coyotes, and one goal in six playoff games.
Yannick Weber, D, Nashville Predators
The 32-year-old defenseman scored three points (one goal, two assists) in 41 games for the Predators last season, his fourth with Nashville. He did not score in four playoff games. Weber has scored 94 points (28 goals, 66 assists) in 497 regular-season games for the Montreal Canadiens, Canucks and Predators, and six points (four goals, two assists) in 42 playoff games.
