Players signed to professional tryouts for NHL training camps

Unsigned veteran players can earn a contract with an NHL team by impressing enough in training camp on a professional tryout contract (PTO). Training camps opened Sept. 21 and the regular season began Oct. 7.
The following notable players (listed alphabetically) were in an NHL camp on a PTO:

Artem Anisimov, Philadelphia Flyers
The 34-year-old forward didn't play in the NHL last season; he had 19 points (eight goals, 11 assists) in 27 games for Yaroslavl of the Kontinental Hockey League. Anisimov had 376 points (180 goals, 196 assists) in 771 regular-season games with the New York Rangers, Columbus Blue Jackets, Chicago Blackhawks and Ottawa Senators, and 17 points (eight goals, nine assists) in 43 Stanley Cup Playoff games.
Zach Aston-Reese](https://www.nhl.com/player/zach-aston-reese-8479944), Toronto Maple Leafs
The 28-year-old forward had 15 points (five goals, 10 assists) in 69 games for the Pittsburgh Penguins and Anaheim Ducks last season; he was traded to the Ducks for forward Rickard Rakell on March 21. Aston-Reese has 66 points (32 goals, 34 assists) in 230 regular-season games for the Penguins and Ducks, and four points (one goal, three assists) in 23 playoff games.
Aston-Reese signed a one-year contract Oct. 9.
Nathan Beaulieu](https://www.nhl.com/player/nathan-beaulieu-8476470), Anaheim Ducks
The 29-year-old defenseman had four assists in 24 games with the Winnipeg Jets last season. Beaulieu has 94 points (12 goals, 82 assists) in 419 regular-season games with the Jets, Montreal Canadiens and Buffalo Sabres, and five assists in 21 Stanley Cup Playoff games.
Beaulieu signed a one-year contract Oct. 1.
Derick Brassard, Ottawa Senators
The forward, who turns 35 on Sept. 22, had 19 points (eight goals, 11 assists) in 46 regular-season games for the Edmonton Oilers and Flyers last season, including three points (two goals, one assist) in 15 games with the Oilers after he was acquired in a trade with the Flyers on March 21. He played one game in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Brassard has 522 points (202 goals, 320 assists) in 951 regular-season games with 10 teams, and 68 points (25 goals, 43 assists) in 118 playoff games.
Brassard signed a one-year contract Oct. 10.
Alex Chiasson, Arizona Coyotes
Chiasson, who turns 32 on Oct. 1, had 22 points (13 goals, nine assists) in 67 games for the Vancouver Canucks last season. The forward has 224 points (114 goals, 110 assists) in 631 regular-season games with the Dallas Stars, Senators, Calgary Flames, Washington Capitals, Oilers and Canucks, and seven points (four goals, three assists) in 37 playoff games.
Chiasson was released from his tryout contract Oct. 9.
Michael Dal Colle, Ottawa Senators
The 26-year-old forward played one game for the New York Islanders last season. He had 22 points (nine goals, 13 assists) for Bridgeport of the American Hockey League. The No. 5 pick in the 2014 NHL Draft has 21 points (eight goals, 13 assists) in 112 regular-season games, all with the Islanders. He does not have a point in four Stanley Cup Playoff games.
Dal Colle was released from his tryout contract Oct. 1.
Calvin de Haan](https://www.nhl.com/player/calvin-de-haan-8475177), Carolina Hurricanes
The 31-year-old defenseman had eight points (four goals, four assists) in 69 games for the Blackhawks last season. De Haan played for the Hurricanes in 2018-19. He has 119 points (19 goals, 100 assists) in 520 regular-season games with the Blackhawks, Hurricanes and Islanders and five points (one goal, four assists) in 37 playoff games.
De Haan signed a one-year contract Oct. 1.
Danny DeKeyser, Vancouver Canucks
The 32-year-old defenseman had 11 assists in 59 games for the Detroit Red Wings last season. DeKeyser has 146 points (33 goals, 113 assists) in 547 regular-season games for the Red Wings and two points (one goal, one assist) in 19 playoff games.
DeKeyser was released from his tryout contract Oct. 4.
Jason Demers, Edmonton Oilers
The 34-year-old defenseman has 214 points (45 goals, 169 assists) in 699 regular-season games with the San Jose Sharks, Stars, Florida Panthers and Coyotes, and 16 points (three goals, 13 assists) in 61 playoff games. Demers did not play in the NHL last season; he had one assist in five games for Kazan in the Kontinental Hockey League.
Cody Eakin, Calgary Flames
The 31-year-old forward had 12 points (four goals, eight assists) in 69 games for the Sabres last season. Eakin has 256 points (110 goals, 146 assists) in 701 regular-season games with the Capitals, Stars, Vegas Golden Knights, Jets and Sabres, and 19 points (eight goals, 11 assists) in 50 playoff games.
Eakin was released from his tryout contract Oct. 6.
Alex Galchenyuk, Colorado Avalanche
The 28-year-old forward had 21 points (six goals, 15 assists) in 60 games with the Coyotes last season. Galchenyuk has 354 points (146 goals, 208 assists) in 643 regular-season games with the Coyotes, Maple Leafs, Senators, Minnesota Wild, Penguins and Canadiens, and 17 points (five goals, 12 assists) in 38 playoff games.
Galchenyuk was released from his tryout contract Sept. 28.
Scott Harrington](https://www.nhl.com/player/scott-harrington-8476449), San Jose Sharks
The 29-year-old defenseman had one assist in seven games for the Blue Jackets last season. Harrington has 38 points (seven goals, 31 assists) in 210 regular-season games with the Penguins, Maple Leafs and Blue Jackets, and four assists in 14 playoff games.
Harrington signed a one-year contract Sept. 30.
Thomas Hickey, New Jersey Devils
The 33-year-old defenseman did not have a point in two games with the Islanders last season and had 18 points (six goals, 12 assists) in 44 games with Bridgeport and Ontario of the American Hockey League. Hickey has 117 points (22 goals, 95 assists) in 456 regular-season games for the Islanders and six points (one goal, five assists) in 24 playoff games.
Hickey was released from his tryout contract Oct. 3.
Sonny Milano, Calgary Flames
The 26-year-old forward had an NHL career-high 34 points (14 goals, 20 assists) in 66 games with the Ducks last season. Milano has 81 points (36 goals, 45 assists) in 197 games with the Ducks and Blue Jackets.
Milano was released from his tryout contract Oct. 6.
James Neal, Columbus Blue Jackets
The 35-year-old forward had four points (two goals, two assists) in 19 games last season with the St. Louis Blues after attending training camp on a PTO and signing a one-year contract. He also had 26 points (14 goals, 12 assists) in 28 games with Springfield of the American Hockey League. Neal has 559 points (296 goals, 263 assists) in 869 regular-season games with the Blues, Stars, Penguins, Nashville Predators, Golden Knights, Flames and Oilers, and 58 points (33 goals, 25 assists) in 110 Stanley Cup Playoff games.
Neal was released from his tryout contract Oct. 3.
Tyler Pitlick, St. Louis Blues
The 30-year-old forward had five points (one goal, four assists) in 39 games for the Flames and Canadiens last season; he was traded to the Canadiens with forward prospect Emil Heineman, a first-round pick in the 2022 NHL Draft and a fifth-round pick in the 2023 NHL Draft for forward Tyler Toffoli on Feb. 14. Pitlick has 89 points (48 goals, 41 assists) in 325 regular-season games with the Oilers, Stars, Flyers, Coyotes, Flames and Canadiens, and three points (two goals, one assist) in 22 playoff games.
Pitlick was released from his tryout contract Oct. 7.
Victor Rask, Columbus Blue Jackets
The 29-year-old forward had 21 points (nine goals, 12 assists) in 47 games with the Wild and Seattle Kraken last season. Rask has 223 points (89 goals, 134 assists) in 506 regular-season games with the Kraken, Wild and Hurricanes, and no points in seven playoff games.
Rask was released from his tryout contract Oct. 5.
Antoine Roussel, Philadelphia Flyers
The 32-year-old forward had eight points (four goals, four assists) in 53 games with the Coyotes last season. Roussel has 197 points (85 goals, 112 assists) in 607 regular-season games with the Coyotes, Stars and Canucks and nine points (four goals, five assists) in 36 playoff games.
Roussel was released from his tryout contract Sept. 29.
Daniel Sprong](https://www.nhl.com/player/daniel-sprong-8478466), Seattle Kraken
The 25-year-old forward had 20 points (14 goals, six assists) in 63 games for the Capitals and Kraken last season. Sprong has 70 points (46 goals, 24 assists) in 202 regular-season games and one assist in three playoff games.
Sprong signed a one-year, two-way contract Oct. 3.
Eric Staal, Florida Panthers
The 37-year-old forward had five points (two goals, three assists) for Iowa, the AHL affiliate of the Wild, after signing a PTO on Jan. 13, and four points (one goal, three assists) for Canada as its captain at the 2022 Beijing Olympics. Staal last played in the NHL in 2020-21, when he had 13 points (five goals, eight assists) in 53 games with the Sabres and Canadiens. He has 1,034 points (441 goals, 593 assists) in 1,293 regular-season games for the Hurricanes, Rangers, Wild, Sabres and Canadiens, and 59 points (23 goals, 36 assists) in 83 playoff games. He helped the Hurricanes win the Stanley Cup in 2006.
Derek Stepan, Carolina Hurricanes
The 32-year-old forward had 19 points (nine goals, 10 assists) in 58 regular-season games and did not have a point in three Stanley Cup Playoff games with the Hurricanes last season. Stepan has 504 points (177 goals, 327 assists) in 817 regular-season games with the Hurricanes, Rangers, Coyotes and Senators, and 54 points (20 goals, 34 assists) in 109 playoff games.
Stepan signed a one-year contract Oct. 11.
Michael Stone](https://www.nhl.com/player/michael-stone-8474628), Calgary Flames
The 32-year-old defenseman had six points (two goals, four assists) in 11 regular-season games and five points (two goals, three assists) in nine playoff games for the Flames last season. Stone has 134 points (35 goals, 99 assists) in 504 regular-season games for the Coyotes and Flames, and six points (three goals, three assists) in 15 postseason games.
Anton Stralman, Boston Bruins
The 36-year-old defenseman had 23 points (eight goals, 15 assists) in 74 games for the Coyotes last season. Stralman has 293 points (63 goals, 230 assists) in 930 regular-season games for the Coyotes, Panthers, Tampa Bay Lightning, Rangers, Blue Jackets and Maple Leafs and 26 points (six goals, 20 assists) in 113 playoff games.
Nate Thompson, Los Angeles Kings
The 37-year-old forward had three points (one goal, two assists) in 33 games with the Flyers last season. He previously played for the Kings from 2017-19. Thompson has 164 points (65 goals, 99 assists) in 844 games with the Flyers, Jets, Canadiens, Kings, Senators, Ducks, Lightning, Islanders and Bruins, and 21 points (eight goals, 13 assists) in 86 playoff games.
Thompson was released from his tryout contract Oct. 4.
Jimmy Vesey, New York Rangers
The 29-year-old forward had 15 points (eight goals, seven assists) in 68 games with the Devils last season after attending their training camp on a PTO and signing a one-year contract Oct. 10. Vesey played his first three NHL seasons with the Rangers and has 135 points (72 goals, 63 assists) in 422 regular-season games with the Rangers, Sabres, Maple Leafs, Canucks and Devils. He has five points (one goal, four assists) in 12 Stanley Cup Playoff games.
Vesey agreed to a one-year contract Oct. 9.
Jake Virtanen, Edmonton Oilers
The 26-year-old forward did not play in the NHL last season; he had 16 points (nine goals, seven assists) in 36 games with Spartak Moscow in the KHL. Virtanen has 100 points (55 goals, 45 assists) in 317 regular-season games with the Canucks and three points (two goals, one assist) in 16 playoff games.
Virtanen was released from his tryout contract Oct. 6.
