Power

The Buffalo Sabres are powered up.

Sabres defenseman Owen Power made his NHL debut with the team on Tuesday, starting the game against the Toronto Maple Leafs. Before puck drop, Power skated a solo lap at Scotiabank Arena and was warmly welcomed by NHL fans.

Power's mom and dad watched from the stands as his dad Zee filmed the rookie's entire lap. His parents had words of encouragement for him before the game.
"Hey Owen, good luck tonight," his mom Trish said. "We're super proud of you. Go out there, have fun and play your hardest."

The rest of the Power family showed out, too.

The former Michigan defenseman was the No. 1 pick in the 2021 NHL Draft, signing with the Sabres on April 8, one day after Michigan's 3-2 loss against Denver in the Frozen Four.

Power is the third player to be drafted first overall directly from the NCAA and the first from Michigan to be the top draft selection.
