The defenseman was placed on injured reserve Friday prior to a 3-2 loss to the Minnesota Wild. New York has one game remaining before the break, against the Florida Panthers on Tuesday.
Fox will also miss the 2022 Honday NHL All-Star Game. He was replaced on the Metropolitan Division roster by Washington Capitals forward Evgeny Kuznetsov.
New York's first game following the break is Feb. 15 against the Boston Bruins.
"If [an injury] was going to happen, it's perfect timing," Rangers coach Gerard Gallant said Friday. "We fully expect him to be back after the break."
Fox left a 5-3 loss at the Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday in the third period after he was pinned to the boards by Blue Jackets defenseman Vladislav Gavrikov. He had an assist to extend his point streak to seven games (11 points; two goals, nine assists).
Fox scored 47 points (seven goals, 40 assists) in 44 games and was second in the NHL in assists (Jonathan Huberdeau, Florida Panthers, 43).
The Rangers recalled defenseman Nils Lundkvist and forward Tim Gettinger from the taxi squad Friday, but neither played in the loss to Minnesota. Lundqvist scored four points (one goal, three assists) in 25 NHL games this season. Gettinger has no points in five games.
