The New York Rangers have an outdoor game coming up, which means it's time for Henrik Lundqvist to break in a new set of pads.

The Rangers goalie debuted new pads for the 2018 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic, and they pay homage to the New York Mets, whose ballpark will host the game against the Buffalo Sabres on Jan. 1.

"It's up to me," Lundqvist told reporters about the design Wednesday. "Obviously, we're at Citi Field] as guests, so it feels good to kind of pay the respect a bit and appreciate that we get this opportunity to play in their home field."

Lundqvist is also putting his stamp on the outdoor appearances with his pads. After donning cream-colored pads to match the Rangers jerseys for their first outdoor appearance in the 2012 Winter Classic, Lundqvist wore pinstriped pads for their two games at Yankee Stadium in the 2014 Coors Light NHL Stadium Series.
"Last time around we went with pinstripes," Lundqvist said. "Now, we're going more with the Mets."
