The 25-year-old defenseman was a restricted free agent and was scheduled to have a salary arbitration hearing July 25.
Trouba had an NHL career-high 50 points (eight goals, 42 assists) in 82 games for the Winnipeg Jets last season, and one assist in six Stanley Cup Playoff games. Trouba was traded to New York on June 17 for defenseman Neal Pionk and a first-round pick (No. 20) in the 2019 NHL Draft.

"This is something that I wanted for a long time, to sign a long-term deal, and to have it be with New York," Trouba said. "When everything works out for lifie and family and the future, it's the best situation possible."
Trouba said following the trade that his fiancee, Kelly Tyson, wants to become a doctor, and the ability for her to further her career in New York is important to him.
"We each wrote down the places we would want to be and then shared them with each other," Trouba said. "The Rangers were first on both of our lists. So I'd say it worked out pretty good for both of us that we ended up in New York. That was the place. We couldn't be happier."
The Jets traded Trouba after they were unable to agree to terms with him on a long-term contract. Winnipeg selected Trouba with the No. 9 pick in the 2012 NHL Draft. He has 179 points (42 goals, 137 assists) in 408 NHL games, all with the Jets, and six points (two goals, four assists) in 27 playoff games.
"There's a new challenge ahead of me now, something new to prove," he said. "I don't feel at all like I made it, or it's over, or whatever people feel when they sign a long-term deal. I still have something to prove, and I want to prove it. I want to be the best player I can be, and what I know I can be."
