Gustafsson has 38 points (seven goals, 31 assists) in 61 games this season. The 31-year-old defenseman signed a one-year contract with the Capitals on July 13, 2022, and can become an unrestricted free agent after the season.

The Maple Leafs (37-15-8), who are second in the Atlantic Division, 15 points behind the first-place Boston Bruins and four points ahead of the third-place Tampa Bay Lightning, also acquired defenseman Luke Schenn from the Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday for a third-round pick in the 2023 Draft.
