Darren Helm will be out 6-8 weeks for the Detroit Red Wings because of a shoulder injury, general manager Ken Holland said Monday

The forward was injured at 7:01 of the first period of a 3-2 overtime win at the New Jersey Devils on Saturday.
Helm has six points (one goal, five assists) in 20 games this season. A fifth-round pick (No. 132) by Detroit in the 2005 NHL Draft, he has 216 points (94 goals, 122 assists) in 588 games in 12 NHL seasons, all with the Red Wings. He had been playing on the top line with center Dylan Larkin and Anthony Mantha.
Forward Thomas Vanek and defenseman Jonathan Ericsson each is day to day with a lower-body injury, and each could return when the Red Wings host the Boston Bruins at Little Caesars Arena on Wednesday (7:30 p.m. ET; FS-D+, NESN, NHL.TV), coach Jeff Blashill said. Vanek last played Oct. 30, Ericsson on Nov. 1.
