Rickard Rakell of Ducks added to Team Sweden roster

Anaheim Ducks forward Rickard Rakell will replace St. Louis Blues forward Alexander Steen for Team Sweden at the World Cup of Hockey 2016, Sweden coach Rikard Gronborg said Friday.
Steen will be unable to compete at the tournament after having shoulder surgery in June. The 32-year-old had 52 points (17 goals, 35 assists) in 67 regular-season games and 10 points (four goals, six assists) in 20 Stanley Cup Playoff games for the Blues last season, helping them reach the Western Conference Final.
Rakell, 23, the 30th pick of the 2011 NHL Draft, had his best offensive season in the League last season with 43 points (20 goals, 23 assists) in 72 regular-season games for the Ducks, and had one goal and one assist in seven playoff games.

"Of course it is a blow to our team that Alex can't participate in the World Cup of Hockey, because he possesses a unique set of skills on our team," Gronborg said. "However, Rickard Rakell will be a very strong offensive power on our team. What he accomplished last season in Anaheim is just a sample of what kind player Rickard will be in the near future."
The World Cup of Hockey 2016 will be held from Sept. 17 to Oct. 1 at Air Canada Centre in Toronto. Team Sweden plays its first game on Sept. 18 against Team Russia at 3 p.m. ET (ESPN).
