Lehner pads

Robin Lehner will have an extra level of defense the next time he's in goal for the Vegas Golden Knights.

Chance Clark, a designer from Stettler, Alberta, created Lehner's new set of gear, which features two knights standing guard on the pads, and a Golden Knights-themed blocker and glove.

Chris Joswiak with Brian's Custom Sports reached out to Clark to design a set of gear for a NCAA Division I client, but toward the end of the process, the player decided to switch companies. Clark finished and submitted the design anyway, and it convinced the player to change his mind.

"Apparently that was enough for him to want to come back to Brian's gear, being he liked the design so much," Clark said. "After that Chris gave me the opportunity to tackle Lehner's, as he is a client that is very particular about his gear."

Clark drew up a few variations on the design, including an asymmetrical version to resemble a playing card, and sent them to Lehner, who picked the one he liked best and made some adjustments to the colors. Clark said he was so thankful to Joswiak for the opportunity and the collaboration with Lehner went smoothly.

"After the initial concepts, he had to sleep on it, then after making his decision asked to dial back the red on the boot of the pad," Clark said. "Outside that request, I had complete creative control on the design based on his selection."
