Carpenter is in the final season of a three-year, $3 million contract he signed with the Blackhawks on July 1, 2019 and can become an unrestricted free agent after the season. The 31-year-old has scored 11 points (three goals, eight assists) in 59 games.
Signed as a free agent by the San Jose Sharks on March 26, 2014, Carpenter has scored 68 points (26 goals, 42 assists) in 300 regular-season games for the Sharks, Vegas Golden Knights and Blackhawks. He has six assists in 26 Stanley Cup Playoff games.
The Pacific Division-leading Flames (38-16-8) acquired forward Calle Jarnkrok in a trade with the Seattle Kraken on March 16 and forward Tyler Toffoli from the Montreal Canadiens on Feb. 14.
