"The way I feel right now, I feel like I'm going to be ready for camp,"
Suter told the Wild website
in a story published Wednesday. "I feel good right now. I feel like I'm back."
Suter had crutches and was unable to put any weight on his right foot for a few weeks after surgery. He was on crutches until early June and had his cast removed in July. He put on skates for the first time since surgery during his hockey camp, which ran July 25-29.
"I'm maybe a week and a half behind of where I'd be in the summertime," Suter said. "I'd usually start skating at the end of July, so maybe two weeks. But by next week I'll be putting the equipment on and skating. Right now, I'm just trying to get the bad stuff out of there."
Suter tied his NHL career high with 51 points (six goals, 45 assists) in 78 games last season and ranked second in the NHL with an average of 26:47 of ice time, behind Los Angeles Kings defenseman Drew Doughty (26:50).
Suter said his recovery has surprised some, but not himself.
"I like doubters," Suter said. "When people say, 'You probably won't be ready for camp,' that just makes me angry. I might not be, but I'm sure as heck going to try as hard as I can."
Prior to the injury, Suter hadn't missed any games last season. He missed five games over the previous five seasons.
"I'm going to be in better shape than I've ever been in," he said. "I've never worked this hard, this much."
The Wild open their season at the Colorado Avalanche on Oct. 4.
