last season, slip under his skates like a usual guard, then snap into place at the skate heel. The guards allow him to tie his skate laces before he is in full gear and move quickly between the Sabres home locker room inside KeyBank Center and their adjacent practice rink at HarborCenter.
"I remember seeing them like a few years ago. I saw a kid flying on them at like a tournament or something, and I was like 'I have to get these,' " O'Reilly said. "Since we're always dressing in our room [at KeyBank Center] and coming over to [HarborCenter], it makes things a lot easier."
O'Reilly has started a trend, and it won't be long before the Sabres have a full roster of players skating around.
"We got a bunch more pairs ordered for the boys," O'Reilly said. "Hopefully we'll have our own little roller disco team."
