SJS@ANA: Dubnyk, Sharks blank Ducks

ANAHEIM-- Devan Dubnyk made 34 saves, and Fredrik Handemark scored his first NHL goal for the San Jose Sharks in a 6-0 win against the Anaheim Ducks at Honda Center on Friday.

It was Dubnyk's 33rd NHL shutout and first since Dec. 23, 2019, when he made 22 saves for the Minnesota Wild in a 3-0 win against the Calgary Flames.
"We played hard, the right way," Dubnyk said. "It was a fun one to be a part of."

SJS@ANA: Handemark scores first NHL goal for 6-0 lead

Tomas Hertl had a goal and an assist after missing six games while in NHL COVID-19 protocol for the Sharks (10-11-3), who won two in a row for the first time this season.
John Gibson made 19 saves for the Ducks (8-14-6), who were shut out for the first time this season and haven't won in regulation in their past 13 games (2-8-3).
Gibson was replaced by Ryan Miller after allowing the fifth goal. Miller made two saves.
"We've got to get this together and quit hanging our heads," Ducks coach Dallas Eakins said. "You've got two jobs: Play for each other and play to win."
Hertl gave San Jose a 1-0 lead with a power-play goal at 7:57 of the first period. Brent Burns faked a shot from the high slot and passed to Hertl in the bottom of the right circle, and his one-timer hit the short-side post, banked off Gibson and crossed the goal line with 3 seconds left on the power play.
Dubnyk made his best save of the game on Max Comtois from in close at 16 seconds of the second period to maintain the 1-0 lead.
"You need this from your goalie," Hertl said. "He makes an unbelievable save, and it was, for sure, the game-changer."

Burns then took a drop pass at the red line and skated to the bottom of the right circle. He whipped a centering pass to Evander Kane, who chipped the puck into the net for his 10th goal and a 2-0 lead at 37 seconds of the second period.
San Jose scored three times in 3:18 of the third period to extend the lead.
"I think after we missed our chances in the second (period), we chose to play alone, play outside the structure, tried to get two goals at once, and you can't do that," Eakins said. "That's what happens in this league, right there."
Erik Karlsson scored at 5:58 to make it 3-0, the 10th power-play goal allowed by the Ducks in their past 19 shorthanded situations.
Meier made it 4-0 at 8:03. Kevin Labanc, who was a healthy scratch the previous game, made it 5-0 at 9:16.
"You put it behind you and give everything you have," Labanc said.
Handemark scored at 15:03 to make it 6-0. The 27-year-old played his NHL second game and is the sixth Sharks player to score his first NHL goal unassisted, the first since Jason Demers on Nov. 15, 2009 against the Chicago Blackhawks.
NOTES: Meier played 15:52 after missing two games with a lower-body injury. ... Sharks forward Rudolfs Balcers (undisclosed) was scratched. ...
