Reimer shutouts Flyers with 30 saves

PHILADELPHIA --James Reimer made 30 saves for the San Jose Sharks in a 3-0 win against the Philadelphia Flyers at Wells Fargo Center on Sunday.

Erik Karlsson, Steven Lorentz and Nico Sturm scored for San Jose (2-6-0), which was coming off a 2-1 loss at the New Jersey Devils on Saturday.
"Obviously, we haven't had the greatest start to our year," Reimer said. "We wanted to finish this road trip off and be .500 on the trip (2-2-0), and we completed that. I thought we played maybe our best game of the year here tonight."

SJS@PHI: Reimer shutouts the Flyers in 3-0 victory

Felix Sandstrom made 22 saves for Philadelphia (4-2-0), which was coming off a 3-1 win at the Nashville Predators on Saturday.
"We have to learn how to play back-to-back games," Flyers coach John Tortorella said. "We've played two sets of back-to-backs and our second game, we absolutely don't give ourselves a chance because of turnovers."
The Flyers also lost 4-3 to the Florida Panthers on Wednesday in the second game of a back-to-back.
"I don't think it's a physical tiredness, I think it's maybe a little groggy mentally," Tortorella said. "But if you're a pro, you have to figure out how to simplify your game. We have to learn how to play back-to-backs. I think we have 16 of them this year. We're 0-for-2 as far as at least giving ourselves a chance."

SJS@PHI: Karlsson opens scoring for Sharks in traffic

Karlsson put San Jose ahead 1-0 at 9:32 of the second when he one-timed a pass from Tomas Hertl from the top of the right face-off circle. The defenseman leads the Sharks with six points (three goals, three assists) in eight games.
"He's a great player," Sharks coach David Quinn said. "You see some of the things he does, it's no mystery why he's won a Norris Trophy (as the NHL's best defenseman in 2012 and 2015). Obviously, he drives our offense every time he's out there."
Karlsson's goal came after the Flyers appeared to take a 1-0 lead at 7:13 of the second on a power-play goal by Joel Farabee, but the call was overturned after a replay review showed Philadelphia was offside.
"It's obviously a bummer (to lose the goal)," Flyers forward Travis Konecny said. "We had one of those in Florida and we were able to bounce back. It's just the way the game goes sometimes."

SJS@PHI: Lorentz scores in 2nd period

Lorentz scored his first goal with the Sharks to put them ahead 2-0 at 18:29 of the second, skating through the slot to tip a point shot from Jaycob Megna.
Sturm shot into an empty net to make it 3-0 at 16:06 of the third. It was the Sharks' first third-period goal this season.
Reimer made 16 saves in the third period to seal the win and his 26th NHL shutout.
"He's got a great perspective," Quinn said. "He's been around a long time, he gives us leadership. When you get that from your goalie, it's a special bonus. And he's an impactful guy in the locker room. Obviously, you see what he did tonight, made some big saves there in the third period. They were pushing, and obviously we're still a little bit fragile. I think it's human nature, you're up 2-0, you tend to back off a little bit. But like I said before the game, all we want to do is find a way to win a hockey game."
