SJS@STL: Kyrou wires home wrist shot

ST. LOUIS --Justin Faulk scored twice during a four-goal second period for the St. Louis Blues in a 5-4 win against the San Jose Sharks at Enterprise Center on Monday.

"I don't think anyone's going to complain about that or get any bad vibes from scoring a couple goals early," Faulk said. "Just getting it out of the way and kind of hoping to build it up."
Jordan Kyrou had a goal and an assist, and Mike Hoffman scored his first goal for the Blues (2-1-0), who were coming off an 8-0 loss to the Colorado Avalanche on Friday. Jordan Binnington made 22 saves.
Brent Burns had a goal and two assists, Logan Couture had a two goals and an assist, and Devan Dubnyk made 28 saves in his first start for the Sharks (1-2-0).
"This game was a winnable game for us," Sharks coach Bob Boughner said. "We scored four on the road, we won the special teams and that should be a recipe for at least a point. I can think of three, off the top of my head, goals that came off our sticks. Just high percentage, really unsmart hockey plays, and they go down and score and that hurts. St. Louis is a good team. You can't give them anything."

Couture tied it 4-4 at 4:14 of the third when he banked in a shot from a sharp angle off Binnington after Kevin Labanc, who had a goal and an assist, redirected a puck through the crease.
"I liked our response in the third," Couture said. "We came out with some energy."
But Kyrou made it 5-4 at 10:28 with a shot glove side during a delayed penalty. He used Sharks defenseman Nikolai Knyzhov as a screen after taking a drop pass from defenseman Colton Parayko
"[Parayko] made a good drop for me and I cut to the middle and tried to use the D as a screen there and it worked out," Kyrou said. "I was just happy in the moment and did my thing."
Labanc gave San Jose a 1-0 lead at 11:38 of the first period on a redirection of Burns' point shot, and Couture scored a power-play goal on a one-timer off a pass from Tomas Hertl at 14:18 to make it 2-0.
Faulk scored seven seconds after exiting the penalty box to cut it to 2-1 at 2:36 of the second period, using Mario Ferraro as a screen to beat Dubnyk with a wrist shot, and Hoffman tied it 2-2 at 4:09 with a redirection of Parayko's initial shot.
"It always feels good to get the first one out of the way, especially coming back here for our first game at home," Hoffman said. "Obviously, the fans aren't with us, but I thought it was a good team win and I'm glad that I was able to contribute to it."

SJS@STL: Faulk roofs goal from the circle

Burns scored San Jose's second power-play goal of the game to make it 3-2 at 12:06 of the second. St. Louis is 6-for-14 on the penalty kill this season.
Brayden Schenn tied it 3-3 at 14:17, and Faulk gave the Blues a 4-3 lead at 19:00 on a redirection in the slot of a pass by David Perron.
"It was good to get that first period out of the way and obviously not the second we'd like," Dubnyk said. "But we were right there. We got a big goal to start the third. It was pretty unfortunate."
