NEW YORK/TORONTO --Scotiabank, the official bank of the NHL®, has been named title partner of the 2017 Scotiabank NHL Centennial Classic™, the League announced today. This marks the first time Scotiabank has signed on as title partner of a signature League event. The January 1 outdoor game will feature an Original Six™ match-up when the Toronto Maple Leafs face-off against the Detroit Red Wings at Exhibition Stadium in Toronto, Ont., launching the League's year-long Centennial celebrations.
"The 2017 Scotiabank NHL Centennial Classic™ has all the elements of celebrating the rich history of the NHL, from the Original Six™ match-up featuring two storied Clubs, to the partnership of one of Canada's first banks," said Kyle McMann, Group Vice President, Business Development, Global Partnerships. "We believe January 1, 2017 will embody the spirit of the 5th Season, and we're thrilled to partner with Scotiabank, a brand that celebrates hockey at all levels, as we launch the celebration of our Centennial with fans in Toronto and around the world."

As part of its commitment to hockey at all levels, Scotiabank will provide a once-in-a-lifetime experience to two Scotia Skaters. The lucky youth hockey players will share a memorable moment when they take a lap on the outdoor rink pre-game, waving a Toronto Maple Leafs and Detroit Red Wings flag, before standing on the same ice as their hockey heroes for the national anthems. Both skaters and their families will also receive tickets to the historic outdoor game.
"Scotiabank is proud to celebrate 100 years of NHL hockey as the title sponsor of the NHL Centennial Classic featuring the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Detroit Red Wings," said John Doig, Executive Vice-President & Chief Marketing Officer at Scotiabank. "Hockey matters to Scotiabank because it matters to Canadians, and we are proud to support hockey at all levels in Canada as the official bank of the NHL since 2007, through to the 8,000 youth hockey teams in communities where we live, work and play. We look forward to celebrating with hockey fans of all ages on January 1, 2017 at the first, and only, NHL Centennial Classic."
As the title sponsor of the NHL Centennial Classic™, Scotiabank branding will be prominent on-site and across the League's digital platforms. Scotiabank will receive an in-ice logo position; camera-visible dasherboards; and brand exposure across outdoor game assets including game program, videoboard, and stadium announcements. Scotiabank will also be featured prominently via digital media ads on NHL.com and posts across NHL Social platforms.
To launch the League's year-long Centennial celebrations, members of the 100 Greatest Players from the NHL's early years (1917-1967) will be unveiled and honored in a special ceremony on January 1. The 2017 NHL Centennial celebrations visit every NHL market and dozens of other local hockey communities during a 12-month festival of events and content initiatives culminating with the anniversary of the League's founding on Nov. 26 and first games on Dec. 19.
