Johnson's two goals lift Blackhawks past Kraken

CHICAGO -- The Chicago Blackhawks scored two goals 13 seconds apart in the third period to rally past the Seattle Kraken, 5-4 at United Center on Sunday.

Tyler Johnson tied it 4-4 from the slot at 12:57 before Jason Dickinson put Chicago in front 5-4 with a shot blocker side from the right circle at 13:10.
"Well, I just think it's the compete [level] on the team," Johnson said. "I think everyone in here just keeps working hard regardless of the score. It's what we've talked about from Day One. It's just playing our game doing what we need to do, control what we can control and just keep going."
Johnson scored two goals, and Alex Stalock made 30 saves for the Blackhawks (3-2-0), who have rallied from down 2-0 to win three straight games for the first time in their history.
"Definitely impressive," Chicago coach Luke Richardson said. "As the game went along, we played better, and when it really counted at the end, we played hard and they played for each other. They're really becoming a group in there, and it's nice to see. But, just mentioned to them after the game that we dodged a bullet for sure."
Martin Jones made 22 saves for the Kraken (2-3-2), who were 0-for-4 on the power play and won 31 percent of their face-offs (18-for-59).
"Disappointing loss," Seattle coach Dave Hakstol said. "We did a lot of things that will end up getting you beat on the road. You can look at face-offs, specialty teams early, including a short-handed goal early that really feeds them and gives them life in this hockey game. Down to most importantly, just the way we checked and played without the puck in the last 40-45 minutes of this hockey game."

SEA@CHI: Johnson, Dickinson score 13 seconds apart

Jared McCann gave the Kraken a 1-0 lead at 5:46 of the first period after receiving a backhand drop pass from Morgan Geekie in front of the net. Karson Kuhlman set the play up by carrying the puck into the zone and feeding ahead to Geekie.
Andre Burakovsky made it 2-0 at 7:31. Jordan Eberle took the puck away from Seth Jones on the left-wing boards and passed to Burakovsky, who shot stick side from all alone in the slot.
Jujhar Khaira scored short-handed to bring the Blackhawks to within 2-1 at 17:04. Khaira poked the puck away from Vince Dunn at the blue line, carried it into the offensive zone, and passed to Colin Blackwell, who sent the puck back to Khaira for a tap-in.
The Blackhawks lead the NHL with four short-handed goals this season.
"I think we're buying into the system, and everybody takes pride in that part of our game, the special teams for sure," Khaira said. "Right now, we're fortunate enough to get those bounces, but I think we've been really good on the kill so far."
Johnson's power-play goal at 19:18 of the first tied the game 2-2. He picked up the rebound of Jones' shot and scored from the left circle.
The Blackhawks entered the second period on another power play, and Max Domi converted at 32 seconds to give Chicago a 3-2 lead on a rebound.

SEA@CHI: Beniers scores 19 seconds after Blackhawks

Matty Beniers scored 19 seconds later to tie the game 3-3, and Dunn put Kraken the ahead 4-3 at 10:43 off a pass from McCann.
"We have to stay on the gas," McCann said. "That's an easy way to put it. We let off, and they've got players who can make plays. We can't let up. I thought we had a good start. We took it to them in the first 20 [minutes]. We just got comfortable, kind of got complacent, and we can't do that."
NOTES: Jones played in place of Philipp Grubauer, who is day to day with a lower-body injury. The Kraken recalled goalie Joey Daccord from Coachella Valley of the American Hockey League. … Stalock played in place of Petr Mrazek, who went on injured reserve on Sunday with a groin strain … Forward Yanni Gourde did not play for the Kraken because of personal reasons.
