Avalanche, NHL teams celebrate fans by letting them paint the ice
Season subscribers, rooters decorate rinks at season's end

Colorado Avalanche season-ticket holders hung with them after a disappointing 2016-17 season, and the team rewarded those fans for their loyalty.
The Avalanche hosted their inaugural paint-the-ice event at Pepsi Center, enabling staff, partners, season ticket holders and amateur-hockey players from Colorado to decorate the rink with their favorite messages.

Colorado made the Stanley Cup Playoffs after posting just 48 points in 2016-17 and the organized the event Sunday "to show gratitude for fan support during the 2017-18 turnaround season." Teams painting the ice has become an annual tradition around the League. The New Jersey Devils, who were among the first to start the trend and also made the playoffs after five years outside the field, invited their season subscribers to paint the ice Saturday.
