Wideman-Kid

Some lucky youngsters got an unexpected guest during their game of shinny on Sunday.

Chris Wideman, the defenseman from the Ottawa Senators, surprised some players at the Dovercourt Recreation Centre in Ottawa by joining their game up pick-up hockey.

Wideman, who is recovering from a torn hamstring, recently began skating and announced on Twitter that he'd be stopping by the rink to play pick-up hockey with anyone who was there.
Jim Goddard was among the many who saw Wideman's tweet and took his 8-year-old son Jacob to the rink to play. Wideman met Jacob and signed his jersey, then played hockey with him and others for a few hours, making a memory for the young Senators fan.
"Meeting a player and then playing hockey with him made his year," Goddard told NHL.com. "He will talk about it for a while for sure."

Jacob wasn't the only kid to get a photo with Wideman, who has not played since Nov. 16 because of the leg injury. Many took to Twitter to share their own photos in appreciation of Wideman's time.
