McDavid's surprise visit moves young fan to tears

Jack Day, a 10-year-old Connor McDavid superfan, was moved to tears when he had the opportunity to meet his favorite player.

The Edmonton Oilers captain stopped by for a surprise visit to Day's father's firehouse in Edmonton.

"Connor walked in, and Jack was stunned," Jack's father, A.J., told NHL.com. "Jack was pretty emotional, and Connor came right over, gave him a hug and asked if he could sign his beloved Oilers hat."
Jack Day plays hockey in Spruce Grove, Alberta, about 20 miles west of Edmonton. He is a self-described huge hockey fan with posters and pictures of McDavid on his bedroom wall.
"Jack really liked Patrick Kane, but when [McDavid] came along, he quickly became Jack's favorite player," A.J. said. "He fanatically watches Connor's practice videos from when he was younger, then practices it himself."

McDavid and Shannon Szabados, goalie for the silver medal-winning Canada Olympic team, each went around Edmonton surprising young fans for a promotional event Friday. Jack was there with A.J., who is a fireman at the house, and clearly had no idea McDavid would be stopping by.
Though it was only a few minutes out of McDavid's day, the appearance was a big moment for Jack.
"Jack has come away from this a changed boy," A.J. said. "His already deep-seated love for the game is burning ever brighter, and his dream to play in the NHL someday is buoyed. Connor gives Jack a positive role model for whom he can strive to emulate in life and in the great game of hockey."
