Proposal split

Valentine's Day is upon us and the National Hockey League has seen its share of romantic gestures. And what is more romantic than a marriage proposal?

Whether it is a player finding a unique way to propose or fans getting a little help from their favorite team while popping the question, here's a look back at some of the more unique expressions of love around the league.

Karlsson proposes with pizza

Melinda Karlsson was shocked back in November of 2016 when Ottawa Senators defenseman Erik Karlsson popped the question. She thought she was just getting dinner.
The former Melinda Currey shared a picture of the ring,
which Karlsson had put into the center of a pizza
, citing his lady's obsession. On Instagram, Melinda Karlsson hashtagged the photo of the pizza #dreamproposal.
Just 14 months later,
the couple revealed they are expecting a baby boy.

Arvidsson assists on fan proposal

Morgan Landsberg's favorite player is Viktor Arvidsson. So her boyfriend, Conor Payne, asked the Nashville Predators forward to deliver the engagement ring.
Arvidsson played the role of ring bearer to perfection
and P.K. Subban made a special cameo as the team passed the couple on their way out to the ice.

Ward proposes with Jordans

If you are going to ask such a life-changing question, you need to at least know what your future spouse likes. For San Jose Sharks forward Joel Ward, that was as easy as an empty-netter.
Ward turned girlfriend Kitt Pedrosa into his fiancée with a custom pair of Air Jordan brand sneakers.
On the front the right sneaker read "Will You" while the left said "Marry Me?"
Now that is a proposal with some traction.
Tweet from @ecentrikart: A while back, @JRandalWard42 requested a pair of custom Jordans for his girlfriend as a marriage proposal. Happy to announce she said yes! Congratulations to the happy couple! pic.twitter.com/mmB1CoHYOF

Bailey helps with proposal

Misty Ober thought she was just watching the Los Angeles Kings practice before a road game at Bridgestone Arena. Then she thought Bailey had just stopped by to say hello.
But
Bailey was carrying an engagement ring from boyfriend Jody Ergle
to make it a February practice neither would ever forget.

Canucks fan uses Doritos roses

Amanda Musio turned the tables on her boyfriend,
proposing to Brandon Haubrich in March 2017
during a Vancouver Canucks game.
Musio was a participant in the team's puck shuffle game, but had set it up to where she would ask Haubrich to get married. As a bonus? A bouquet of Doritos!

Senators fan proposes to her Maple Leafs fan girlfriend

This proposal taught us that love can conquer any obstacle - even if one person is a Senators fan and the other a Maple Leafs fan.
Back in 2012, a woman named Alicia rocked a Toronto Phil Kessel sweater and got a rock from her girlfriend Christina, who was decked out in Ottawa gear.
Video of the event, complete with a 'She Said Yes" sign held up by Spartacat, went viral.

Duclair gets proposal from 4-year-old fan

Last season when Anthony Duclair was still with the Arizona Coyotes, a young superfan asked for his hand.
Gracie Hernandez, a 4-year-old fan, met the forward and shot her shot.
Duclair laughed and of course said yes, gave her a big hug and tweeted the big news to his followers saying "Got engaged today."

This one did not have the happiest ending as Duclair was traded to the Chicago Blackhawks this season, but he hinted
he would be back soon enough to see his "fiancee."

AHL Zamboni driver proposes to passenger girlfriend

It was just your routine Grand Rapids Griffins game back in May 2017, until the Zamboni machine driver took the plunge at center ice.
Casey McNamara stopped his vehicle and got down on one knee at center ice to ask Ashley, also an employee of Van Andel Arena where the Griffins play, to marry him.
She said yes. The crowd went wild. An Ed Sheeran song played. The mascot handed her what looked like a game program. It was perfect.
And then? McNamara went right back to work smoothing the ice. That is a pro.

Abdelkader proposes on Joe Louis Arena ice

Detroit Red Wings forward Justin Abdelkader was working on a limited time frame.
He wanted to propose to girlfriend, then Julie Leshkevich, at the place he called home. But Joe Louis Arena was being closed for good, so Abdelkader snuck it in just before the final buzzer.
Instagram from @justinabdelkader8: So excited to start this new journey in life with my best friend, my soulmate and the one that makes me the happiest ❤️

Devils fan gets question on a puck

For this final romantic gesture we go all the way back to a few days ago.
With Valentine's Day approaching, Mike Mazzola was looking for a way to propose to his Devils-fan girlfriend, Tracy Bean. Enter forward Miles Wood.
Carrying a puck with the words "Tracy, will you marry me?" written on it,
Wood handed it over on his way out to the ice.
The rest, as the saying goes, is history.
