Crosby was voted the League's most complete player for the fourth year in a row, garnering 30.1 percent of the vote. The Pittsburgh Penguins center beat out Boston Bruins center Patrice Bergeron (18.8 percent) and Florida Panthers center Aleksander Barkov (17.1), who each was in the top three for the fourth consecutive year.
Crosby, a two-time Hart Trophy winner voted as NHL most valuable player and a three-time Stanley Cup champion, has 84 points (30 goals, 54 assists) in 71 games this season.
The 35-year-old scored his 30th goal of the season on Wednesday, becoming the the first player in NHL history to have a 30-goal season at the age of 18 and again over the age of 35.
The poll asked players from each of the 32 NHL teams 14 questions on a variety of on- and off-ice hockey topics.
For instance, Matthews, the Maple Leafs center, was voted the NHL player with the best shoes.
McDavid was selected as the forward to have for a must-win game (59.3 percent) by 355 of the 599 players who voted on the question. The Oilers center leads the NHL with 138 points (60 goals, 78 assists) in 72 games.
Crosby was second in that category (11 percent) followed by Nathan MacKinnon of the Colorado Avalanche (8.4 percent), Nikita Kucherov of the Tampa Bay Lightning (2.3 percent), Bergeron (1.5 percent) and Matthews (1.3 percent).
Vasilevskiy was the overwhelming choice (52.3 percent) for goalie in a must-win game, followed by Igor Shesterkin of the New York Rangers (4.8 percent), the reigning Vezina Trophy winner voted as the NHL's top goalie; Marc-Andre Fleury of the Minnesota Wild (4.0 percent); Connor Hellebuyck of the Winnipeg Jets (3.5 percent); and Ilya Sorokin of the New York Islanders (3.2 percent).
Players chose Cale Makar of the Avalanche as the top defenseman in the game (63.9 percent), forward Patrick Kane of the Rangers as the best stick-handler (46.1 percent) and center Leon Draisaitl of the Oilers as the best passer (25.0 percent).
Bruins forward Brad Marchand was voted the player the player respondents least enjoy playing against but would like to have on their team (36.5 percent), forward Joe Pavelski of the Dallas Stars was voted the player who affects the game most around the net (21.4 percent), and Barkov (23 percent) was voted the most underrated player.
Canada women's national team captain Marie-Philip Poulin (27.9 percent) was the choice among NHL players as the women's hockey player they would want to play alongside, and Bell Centre, home of the Montreal Canadiens, was chosen as the arena with the best ice surface (35.0 precent).
Off the ice, Las Vegas was the pick as the favorite NHL city to spend an off day (31.7 percent), and Fleury was chosen as the best guy in the locker room (3.8 percent).
