NEW YORK --Sidney Crosby and Tristan Jarry returned for the Pittsburgh Penguins in a 4-3 overtime loss to the New York Rangers in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference First Round at Madison Square Garden on Sunday.

Crosby, a center, did not take part in an optional morning skate Sunday but participated in an optional practice Saturday one day after missing Game 6 of the best-of-7 series, which Pittsburgh lost 5-3. Crosby sustained an upper-body injury in Game 5, also a 5-3 loss, when he was hit by New York defenseman Jacob Trouba at 9:15 of the second period. He took two more shifts before leaving for the locker room.
"Just talking to our staff and doctors, I] got cleared to play," Crosby said. "That was pretty much it."

Crosby had an assist Sunday and finished the series with 10 points (two goals, eight assists) in six games. He had a goal and two assists in Game 4, a 7-2 win for Pittsburgh, to reach 200 points in the Stanley Cup Playoffs (71 goals, 129 assists in 179 games).
Jarry, a goalie, and forward Rickard Rakell each played Sunday. Forward Brian Boyle was week to week with a lower-body injury sustained in Game 6.
Jarry, who had not played since sustaining a lower-body injury April 14, made 26 saves in the loss. He was 34-18-6 with a 2.42 goals-against average and .919 save percentage in 58 games (56 starts) this season.
Jarry was 1-3-0 against the Rangers in the regular season, allowing 10 goals on 106 shots. He had a had a 27-save shutout in a 1-0 in win on Feb. 26.
"Well, he's our No. 1 goalie and when he was deemed ready to play, we were going to put him in the net because he gives us the best chance to win," Penguins coach Mike Sullivan said of Jarry. "I thought he had a [heck] of a game."
Louis Domingue had started the past five games for Pittsburgh after Casey DeSmith was injured in the second overtime of a 4-3 triple-overtime win in Game 1. DeSmith was to miss the remainder of the playoffs after having core muscle surgery May 6.
Domingue is 3-3 with a 3.65 GAA and .898 save percentage in six games, having allowed at least four goals in four of his five starts.
Jarry was 2-4 with a 3.18 GAA and .888 save percentage last postseason, when the Penguins were eliminated by the New York Islanders in the first round. His only other playoff experience came in the 2020 Stanley Cup Qualifiers, when he replaced Matt Murray and allowed one goal on 21 shots in a 2-0 loss to the Montreal Canadiens in Game 4.
"Casey and Louis did a great job, but obviously you want to be in there and battling with them every night," Jarry said. "That's something that hurt the most, just not being able to be out there and go to battle with the guys."
"I think it's just being calm and making sure you're putting your best foot forward. I think that just being able to play I was grateful for that. I was grateful that they trusted to put me in for that. If anything happened, I wanted to be in for that. I wanted to give it my best shot."
Rakell had four shots on goal in 14:24. He had been out with an upper-body injury since Game 1 and had 13 points (four goals, nine assists) in 19 regular-season games after being acquired in a trade with the Anaheim Ducks on March 21.
