Getzlaf gets late assist in final NHL game, Ducks lose to Blues

ANAHEIM-- Ryan Getzlaf had an assist in his final NHL game for the Anaheim Ducks, a 6-3 loss to the St. Louis Blues at Honda Center on Sunday.

Getzlaf set up Adam Henrique with a backhanded pass with 2:41 left, the final point in his 17th NHL season, all with the Ducks.
Getzlaf finished with 1,019 points (282 goals, 737 assists) in 1,157 NHL games, the only Anaheim player to score at least 1,000 points and appear in at least 1,000 games.
"This is a game that I've loved for so long and I tried to give everything that I had every time I stepped on this ice," Getzlaf said. "I've been able to build this beautiful family next to me, and I'm just looking forward to that next chapter right now."

Ivan Barbashev had a goal and two assists, and Ville Husso made 14 saves for the Blues (49-20-11), who extended their team-record point streak to 16 games (14-0-2).
Robert Thomas assisted on a goal by Vladimir Tarasenko to extend his point streak to 17 games (eight goals, 21 assists) and tie Edmonton Oilers forward Connor McDavid for the longest point streak in the NHL this season.
"We played the right way for the most part," St. Louis coach Craig Berube said. "We did things right."
The Blues are tied in points with the Minnesota Wild for second in the Central Division but have played one more game. The teams will face each other in the Western Conference First Round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Max Comtois and Gerry Mayhew scored, and John Gibson made 31 saves for the Ducks (30-36-14), who are 3-14-5 in their past 22 games.
The Ducks scored on their first two shots of the game after going without one for the first half of the opening period.
Comtois gave Anaheim a 1-0 lead at 10:31 when he redirected a pass from Vinni Lettieri.
Mayhew made it 2-0 at 12:40 on a slapshot through traffic from just inside the blue line.
"We started the right way," Comtois said. "Found a way to put some pucks in the net."
The Blues came back with four goals in the second period to lead 4-2.
Jordan Kyrou's shot deflected off two Anaheim players before hitting the net to make it 2-1 at 7:29.
Tarasenko tied it 2-2 at 8:37, extending his point streak to 10 games (nine goals, 12 assists).

Barbashev scored at 12:37 to give the Blues a 3-2 lead.
Justin Faulk made it 4-2 at 14:38 with a one-timer from above the left circle.
"We got back to our game, especially offensively," Barbashev said. "Got some movement and were pretty lucky to get four quick ones."
Pavel Buchnevich made it 5-2 at 4:44 of the third with his 30th goal of the season.
Marco Scandella extended the lead to 6-2 when he scored between Gibson's pads from the bottom of the left circle at 5:37.
"We just stuck with it," Berube said. "Once we got one, we felt pretty good about ourselves."

Getzlaf skated around the ice for several minutes following the game. Members of the Blues and the on-ice officials also stayed around to congratulate Getzlaf, whose wife Paige, four children and his parents, Steve and Susan, sat on the Anaheim bench.
"It's an emotional time, man. This has been my life for so long, and this building, showing up every day, is all that I've known," he said. "We'll wake up [Monday] and see what's next, but I love this place and thank you so much for having me."
NOTES: Blues defenseman Robert Bortuzzo did not play the third period because of a lower-body injury and is day to day. ... St. Louis forward Tyler Bozak returned after missing the past 20 games with a torn groin and assisted on Barbashev's goal. ... St. Louis forward Brayden Schenn missed his second game with an upper-body injury and remains day to day. ... Blues defenseman Torey Krug missed his third game with a lower-body injury and is also day to day. ... Faulk also had an assist to give him 18 points in his past 15 games (eight goals, 10 assists). ... Getzlaf finished ninth among active NHL players in career points, 49th all time in assists, and 88th all time in points. .... Mayhew scored for the second straight game and fifth time since he was claimed off waivers from the Philadelphia Flyers on March 20. He needed assistance leaving the ice after blocking a shot late in the third period.
